I can't believe I'm just finding these- they're great! I always loved Nikki- always a drama queen, but there was so much more to her than that. She had deep rooted emotional and mental abuse from her past and was so self conscious. Her cocky way was how she covered it. Of all the characters, hers was the most in depth, I always felt.
@ChaoticSerenity
@ChaoticSerenity Жыл бұрын
Her character was an excellent and brutally honest portrayal of unresolved trauma. She’s vicious and unlikeable at times, but they are a defense mechanism to mask the intensity of her pain and fear. It was only when she was able to rescue her daughter and give her a life that was taken from her was she able to reconcile even a small part of what was done to her.

The thing is Nicki's concern was right - Barb and Bill both married her to have children - and when she fought back she was treated like an outcast for it - before they knew she was on birth control they were taking her off to the doctor to get checked, when they found out she was discarded only the fact that she had a terrible secret / reason did they take her back. Whereas Margie who was married for lust was allowed to stop having kids - Bill even says as much. Nicki really was used.

MissDee yes it's sad I think that they chose her for breeding. I think they initially had her because Barb was ill and dying, once she survived and could no longer have children, Nicki was expected to carry the burden alone, I think that they thought she would because of where she came from, Juniper Creek and the woman were expected to breed there and I think that's what they expected Nickollette to do, the women where she came from did as they men asked and I think they expected her to be the same and do as she was told. But Nicki was strong willed and didn't want to have tons of babies, I know she loved her children but it didn't feel natural to her, in the series we saw her struggle with bonding emotionally with her children, she was trying to over compensate with spending money on them instead of showering them with love, I feel like Nicki got better at it as the show went on, especially with Cara, but she definitely struggled at the beginning. I can't imagine being in a situation like that, where you are expected to keep having children until you can't anymore, I do think she fell for the DA she worked with for her father, unfortunately she she did as she was told because although she knew her father was evil she still loved him and wanted him to be proud of her and acceptance of her, I think if she had met him in a different way she would of left Bill and would of been happy to live a one man relationship, but that wasn't to be, I would love to know what happened to the wives now since Bill died, I wonder if Nicki would now be the only wife in a relationship, I would love to know that now, it's been years since I saw the ending but I do remember that Margene was going on as a missionary but I can't remember what happened to the others, I would love to watch these again, but it's expensive to watch here in the 🇬🇧, I can't afford the box set, which is a pity because I'm having some chemotherapy and I could use watching this again to take my mind off reality for a bit, Thanks for uploading these, I wish someone could upload the series for us to watch, but I know KZbin would probably take it down, but thanks for these, it gives a glimpse back into the series, And a break from reality so Thanks so much 😊

Bill had years off of the compound to leave it behind and Nicki was obviously traumatized leaving Carolyn and trying to find a new calling. Bill brought a second wife in while Barb was on her death bed, and he married a woman who was clearly hurting/ brainwashed. He should have known better and helped Nicki leave her family's influence if he was going to eventually marry her.

I am rewatching the entire series for my 3rd time now (since it originally aired) and because I had a question about a certain actor that I was looking up did I happen to learn of these 2 pre-episodes. I really don’t understand why they’re not included with the series and why I can only seem to find them on KZbin.

@SenseOrSensibility Barb gave birth to Sarah, Ben and Teeny before battling cancer for several years. Nicki was brought in to nurse Barb through chemo, etc and during that time Bill began to toy with the idea of plural marriage. Once Barb was in remission, he proposed the idea to Barb, who eventually agreed.

I've just gorged on this series this last month. Just finishing S4. I have to say I thought I'd of hated Nicki buy actually she's ended up being the most interesting part of the show. She is presented as a love to hate character. The characters I really dislike are Barb (although she's been improving in the latter half of S4, her worst was S3 and the first half of S4) and Bill. He's such a spoilt, hypocritical narcissist. But I feel as if the producers were trying to insist that he was actually a decent character I should like. I really do not. Bill past S2 has been brain ache.

For everyone's info: I'm a Mormon, and I say this on behalf of my church: Originally, very early on in our faith, some members of the church did practice polygamy. But this practice was banned in 1890. Groups have broken away from the church over the years-some of these sects of the faith do practice polygamy, such as those on this series. But they are not Mormons and are not affiliated with the church; in fact, if a Mormon today was found to be practicing polygamy, they would immediately be ex

I think these episodes were either meant for just flashback scenes, or pilot episodes. They weren't weren't used because they decided to take the first season in a different direction. They wanted to open the show with all of them already married, and a few years already into each marriage. I wish they would've opened it with the first season of how they all became to be married. Or at least use the episodes for flashback purposes,to see how it all began.

Even back then, Nikki was such a pain lol I loved the entire series, but she made me cringe every. single. episode. I couldn't stand her or the judgemental, big-headed self-righteousness, nor the default setting she's got that makes her forget about the copious amount of lies and transgressions on her own conscience. She just rubbed me the wrong way every episode. That said, the actress playing her did a superb job lol She really embodied that character. I doubt anyone could play her better.

I only found out about these pre-quails when I looked up some of the actors and actresses on IMDb. To be honest, my first question was whether the actress who plays Tansey a.k.a. Bella Thorne was even white. It was just a curiosity thing and then I also looked up Jennifer Goodwin and it showed this as part of her acting credentials. I’m still confused as to why HBO doesn’t offer this even though I can watch the entire series and even little clips but they don’t have these clips?! So strange
