I think if you hold onto your convict long enough it may grow hump most people just get rid of them after a certain time

Wow. I never knew Convicts got a hump. I currently have two fish that were sold in the LFS as a JD/Flowerhorn Hybrid. I was suspicious but bought a pair anyway. After they've grown a bit, I'm sure the are Convict/JD hybrids. I hope the male gets a hump like that.

It will grow naturally on the males when they gets older That's why you need patience and time . Probably you have to wait nearly a year for that size beautiful hump Remember almost every mid to big size south or central american cichluds develop nuchal hump The bigger the fish , there is a chance of bigger hump However convict can grow hump , but as they don't grow very big ( max size 6 inch ) - their hump is not very big . For better natural hump , my bet is red devil or midas or any big size south or central american cichlids .

Hi, Your video caught my eye as there was just something strange about this fish. Being I don't know all that much about tropical fish I called someone who DOES know a lot about tropical fish, my dad. He's been breeding tropicals (saltwater & freshwater) for over 40 years & tells me this appears to be a Hybrid Flowerhorn/Convict cross. Being that Flowerhorns are manmade fish, to begin with (they crossed a Trimac cichlid with a whole host of other Central American cichlid species to see what came out). There were some more colorful, better patterned Trimac's who kept all the attitude while others developed larger nuchal humps which, today, 10+ years on are getting ridiculously large. I'm told the nuchal hump on this fish is too large for a Convict cichlid & if you look closely there are other differences such as mouth shape and subtle differences in fin shape which lead one to believe this is a hybrid. I guess it isn't surprising considering how people can't seem to leave nature alone & are constantly trying for a new 'look'. Thankfully, today we have banned a good bit of the cruelty such as docking dogs tails just for show and cropping the ears of certain breeds of dog like the Great Dane & the Doberman. I wanted to share this because I was not aware myself that cichlids were a type of fish which hobbyists like to cross to see 'just what they get'. On the one hand, it seems interesting. On the other hand, it seems rather cruel!

It’s more of a dominance thing as well if you have a tank with males convicts can grow the jump just depends on the male ! They don’t need to be a hybrid

it's not cruel to clip certain dogs ears. I have a Doberman and I got the tail and ears done. clipping the ears is actually better for the dog, It prevents ear infections and bacteria buildup and it helps with their hearing.

@@kelvinperkins5864 its only true in breeds like cockers or basset, with long ears. In dogs with normal ears its worst, i have a rescued bull with cropped ears and they are ever full of dirt, and when he swim he have more problems with water.

They naturally grow according to your tank size. I've hade mine for 3 years and they are in a 30 gallon tank. They grew to 3" so far.

I see TONS of make convicts with Kok. I have 4 black and 2 pink male convicts with koks. And I see them all the time in LFS
