It saddens me to see you losing so many bees. We appreciate your honesty and willingness to make this video; many would not have. This Canadian viewer loves your channel.

Much respect from QLD mate you are a legend. All my beekeeping mates agree.

Yike! Seeing the carpet of dead bees was a shocker. But glad you are philosophical for this and that most of the hives seem still in working order. Hang in there!

Good to see you own your mistake, learn from it and teach others what not to do. My favorite channels, yours included, show mistakes so that others can learn. Nobody's perfect and I'm glad the ladies still have a fighting chance.

I'm so sorry you lost some of your bees :( thank you for your honesty + humility in showing us how to avoid this potential problem! invaluable wisdom!

My guess is that the foragers died in the hive overnight and were dumped outside the next day by the cleanup crew. Any ants eating a poisoned bee would also be poisoned.

Wow, Dodged a bullet there Mark, could have been a lot worse, hope they recover.Cheers for sharing the experience, stay safe!

So sad to see all those dead bees but it’s so nice to see you so positive. You inspire me to be positive in all situations. Would you have been able to shut the field workers in for a day (the night before) til the spray dried rather than to move them? New beekeeper here and I appreciate all your information!
@robertswan94343 жыл бұрын
Shutting them in can work, but be very careful that they don't overheat. Screen bottom board if you have it, breathable mesh stapled over entrances, shade, and an upper entrance if you're going to shut them up in hot weather.

Oh that breaks my heart to see so many bees gone, which translates into less pollinating and everything else down the line. On another thought, I do wonder if any of the hives seem to learn the sound of our dear Bush Bee Man and respond differently?

A bee only lives for a month, so I doubt they get many visits from him in that time, an occasional nuisance that is quickly forgotten.

BE WARNED! (bee warned?) DO NOT WATCH THIS CHANNEL IT WILL BEE(!) YOUR DOWNFALL .. I did, I thought I could handle it, it's just KZbin, right? .. it was Lockdown, I watched an episode, then another ... then about 20 more .. then LOADS more ... pretty soon I was looking at bee keeping supplies, contacting my local association, eagerly scanning the adverts for nucs, colonies, boxes ... I bought 2 colonies ... now I have 7 colonies, and spend half my week running around after whichever one has swarmed this week. Just be careful, this bee keeping is infectious!

So sorry to see what happened. But your positivity and humor keeps me inspired and laughing. I'm a new beek and these bees have been keeping me very busy! They are growing so quickly. We generally do not use pesticides on our property since I grow veggies, herbs, perennials and pollinator plants. We research and look for natural remedies where possible.
@phillee28143 жыл бұрын
The trouble is that unless you have a very extensive property, your bees will be foraging well outside it.

Would any resulting honey be safe to consume? I get that you'll probably leave the honey for the bees, but in general what would you recommend - eat or not?
@AwesomeFish123 жыл бұрын
Like you said, this late in the season I doubt there would be any left by spring. Personally I would leave it in the brood box and only harvest spring honey from above an excluder, just to be sure it's all new.

Some of my trillium are dying because the tree they live next to drew water from an area sprayed with roundup, even though it’s almost 20 feet away... Lesson learned, but I wish it could have been with a less sensitive plant. Do you have any plant based/bee friendly insecticides to recommend? Not sure if you mention any in the video as I’ve only just started it lol
@matthewhoward89273 жыл бұрын
I am so sorry to hear about your bees, but you may need to look for a different cause if you do not want this to happen again. Roundup is a herbicide, not an insecticide. Its effectiveness is in its ability to prevent a plant from being able to photosynthesise. Unless you rely on photosynthesis to live it should not cause any issues. Over 800 studies have shown it to be safe for non photosynthesising species. I always use roundup (glyphosate) around and under all my hives and have never had any sort of die off. I hope this does not happen to you again and you find the cause. Take care.

See one of his earlier videos... Think it was Radom x3 Letters Australian State Bee Inspector gave him, for his Registration Box Code ID. Earlier video tried to match it to The Bush Bee Man, with witty comments, using these initials. 🤭 ,🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Fruit fly is a very serious problem in the Riverland, like you said, everyone has a right to earn a living. How devastating effects of the fruit fly to the orchards and equally devastating for the bees. Lesson learned for next time. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

The bees that day did not get into the spray must of been having class room learning lessons that day instead of out doing practical work in the outdoor. Well I guess you have to laugh about it at this time to keep you from crying about it all . That’s what I had to do in one of my colonies this year. Well I did not lose the whole colony thank goodness. Like you said everyone need to work together. Sorry .
