I am a professional arborist turned forester and it is awesome to see a production logger in the South that also knows how to climb trees without spikes! Way to go! You probably could have set the pull rope from the ground, but regardless, good job!

How does on go about becoming an arborist or forester or a faller , I’ve been doing firewood as a side hustle for a while now but I have currently entered a time in my life where I could go forward with becoming one but I don’t know how to proceed is it something I need Togo back to school for or can I just go work for a tree service to get started ?

Hi Tim! I'm not a tree feller or any such thing like it. I'm a pipefitter that grew up on the farm and still do play farmer some. I've helped my best bud Tim take a few trees down near his house. What we do is get a rope high on the tree and rig one of them round IH weights half way on our rope, then tighten it up so it will pull continuously til the tree is in motion. The weight puts a LOT of pull into the equation. You don't have to worry about rope breakage, foot slippin off the clutch- any of that. ($.02)

Great video, but off the subject, and this is a compliment, up here in northern NH guys like to say, "get 'er done" and they try using your accent which is so fine. Unfortunately, as much as "get 'er done" is said, no one up here near the Canadian border will ever get the accent right. Back to basics, thanks for the excellent video.

It is a real challenge to know for sure you have enough load on your pull line when you make that trip cut. I like that you used wedges for that extra safety measure. Very smart of you to assume the rope may part or the pull vehicle may slip. Not likely in this case but most folks are using the family 1/2 ton not a fellabuncher. Plunge cuts give stability till your ready and I like it best. I bet your like me and love to be able to watch the wedge get loose meaning all the energy needed to pull the tree where you want it is there. Great video!

Nice video! Got an old dead oak that's got a lean to it right next to a stockwater tank, we're gonna have to do it the same way. Gotta lay down barbwire fence and toss some blocking to lay down on to keep from breaking a shallow water line. This video helped me visualize it a lot better!
