I also found about this video yesterday... it helped me greatly! I'm on the younger side of the spectrum

Your videos are really good and are helping me a lot. Thank you. You speak about what's real and share your experience which is invaluable to us budding engineers. Please keep uploading and sharing, it's really hard to find how the pros actually do it.

All great advice Joel. I'm tempted to ramble and rant here but... I'm definitely coming to the conclusion that "remove the limiter before you send it to me" is not good advice and not something I'll be doing anymore. If I've been careful enough that they can't tell whether it's a drum limiter or a stereo buss limiter, then I'd rather not have surprises coming back from mastering. As you know (but maybe not everyone here) the limiter affects what, and how much, automation is done to the individual tracks and taking it off can cause problems when inevitably the mastering engineer's limiter isn't exactly the same attack/release/etc.

Wisdom indeed ;-) Thanks Joel ! From what my feelings are, i would add 2 things to your last comment: to me the more it sounds natural ( less processed sound ) the better it will travel thru time and not be lost in the hype of the moment. nothing more annoying than be turned off by the music of a past era because at that time it was the thing to have way too much bottom end or huge crispy highs or reverb everywhere etc.. that's what turn a great song into a true classic. Also music = emotion, i remember very well songs that has moved me emotionally in the past and my mind associate it directly with feelings.. and as bad as a mix might be, when i hear the song i instantly go back in time, it makes me feel good and the song do sounds good to me. So yes: Organic. Emotion.

Omg. I cannot hesr music either the way people do. Running live sound for a couple of years which I did not like help that very thing you're talking about while mixing
