BIG RIG Fire Fighting

Denver Fire Department station tours and rig tours have been outstanding. This one is no exception. Neil, a crew member of station 1 does a fantastic job going through not just one rig but TWO. The is part of a crew that trains for specialty rescues, specifically collapse rescues, rope rescues, trench, and any other dangerous rescue you can think of. His knowledge of these trucks is what every firefighter should strive to achieve. Denver Station 1 is a highly sought-after station because of the technical rescues these guys perform. It is awesome to see dual-purpose fire trucks with other rigs at a ready status for the "big jobs" holding all the specific and unique equipment. A semi-truck is their collapse unit. Bringing yet another first for the Heroes Next Door channel. I was amazed at the amount of equipment it carried and the skills needed to make it function. Denver Fire Department is truly special as they work on anticipating and training for any type of emergency that the city might through at them.
A special thank you needs to go out to Firefighters Neil and Bo, along with PIO (now chief) Greg, and their new PIO JD for allowing us to come and film these incredible stations and rigs. We as a community must say thank you to all the people in the Denver Fire Service for the dedication and work they are doing. They are all true Heroes Next Door.

Fun fact: 22:49 See the two silver doors on either side of the trailer tandems and the outlet at the back of the trailer? The doors cover trailer hitches, which you'll often see on the sides of rescue apparatus to mount portable winches, along with a power source to run them. Sure, you could do that with this rig but that wasn't the intent. Originally, the idea was to mount a couple horizontal fixtures into the two hitches, slap a work surface and the miter saw on top, and create a handy work bench to cut shoring within steps of the lumber tunnel at the back of the rig. That arrangement is mirrored on both sides so you could have two cut stations operating simultaneously.

You should try to get to good fellowship Ambulance in West Chester or Marple Ambulance or Springfield Ambulance they have fire stations really close you can cover two in one trip 😊

Nothing exciting, just a bunch of miscellaneous odds and ends for tools in other compartments. Hoses, adapters and the water pump for the concrete saws; assorted blades; and some gas cans on the officer's side. Some short trench struts and extenders; load indicators; hoses for the Paratechs; and a couple air compressors (one gas, one electric) on the engineer's side. Or, at least, that's how we laid it out in back in 2008 when it still had that new firetruck smell. That section of the trailer is where the lumber tunnel ends, and it just made more sense--drawing from experience working off the rig it replaced, a 1990 Ford L8000/Hackney beer delivery truck donated to the department by Coors; it continues to operate as the reserve out of 18s in Lowry--to add a separate compartment there as a sort of catch-all space for things that might've gotten lost in other compartments if we'd instead simply stretched out the #5 & 6 compartments.
