This was a great story. I’d be curious to hear more about the infrastructure differences between Westside/Eastside and Watts gangs, that created different reactions to peace movements.
@joemosely9383
@joemosely9383 Жыл бұрын
Watts already had entrenched Nonprofit Organizations on the ground that specialized in Gang intervention. It was easier to pull 3 local projects together. The Westside Gangs are bigger and heavier on set tripping, having laundry lists of enemies. Where Watts gangs had 2 or 3 main rivalries a piece.. Sixtys & Hoovers are the most hated gangs with tons of enemies all over L.A County and done a lot of damage to enemy sets. Difficult to squash all those conflicts with those guys. The Westside has these alliances that run deep. N/Hoods & Rollin 0s, Hoovers and loose nit collective of Gangster Crips.... At the time, if u beef with the 60s or cant peace with 60s, you have 10 other gangs backing their play. And I want to say, their was a lot of Wars and new beefs that kicked off right before the Riots, so once the Police broke up most of the Peace Events and Enemy sets didn't get time to get fulling acquainted with eachother, shit gradually went back to Pre-Riot conditions. Watts had Politicians & organizations supporting them with programs, resources & finances long into 1993 and beyond... Westside didn't have none off that. Watts is considered the true Ghetto of L.A and gets extras attention when it comes to poverty programs dating back to the Watts Riots of 1965.

Some people are in denial that police can perpetuate crime for spite, job security, and more public funding. We can defeat that. Shake somebody's hand today, make a friend, Make it a habit and eventually we all connect through love

That’s called staying vigilante. Being your brothers keeper. Cops can write gang stuff on walls and dump guns in communities, but if we are extra vigilant, forgive each other, we can defeat a system that’s against us. Christ told us how to be in babylon

I was kind of shocked to hear you speak on Duck and Su'. Sule was recently on the front page of the Sentinel newspaper. He received the Love Award from Judge Maybelline. Here's the thing about us. We are fully aware of the role we played in the destruction of our people, our communities and our families. We are also fully aware of our responsibility to give these young people more to look forward to in life than a body bag or a prison # Solute to both of my Brothers who have stood with me and encouraged me for my entire life #HoovaHey 😎

ALL the memories flooded back instantly! I myself grew up on 84th & Hoover 😇 He is literally talking about the neighborhood I grew up in and the park I played at as a child. To hear these stories being told you would think I would've been terrified to be in that type of environment🤔 BUT..... I NEVER thought twice about it; but then again it was a thing called "street code" 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ Everything he is speaking are FACTS! I left South Central LA, 6 days before the Rebellion and this brings back great memories. I was there for two weeks and I remember hearing on the news in Columbus, Ohio about the Peace Treaty. I thought it was the greatest thing ever and I was just happy to hear that the Brothers got it worked out (at least for a second). I just remember going back in July of 92 and got a Peace Treaty Tee Shirt on Crenshaw and Slauson. Great as usual Big Kev and like I said was gonna reply when I got to the Crib and we’ll, here I am. Peace!! #Salute!!

From Jump ; This story has Impact , Talking 'bout the Riots .. Felt all across America , as a Lad coming up in BK , We felt this to our core .. Seeing a black Man beat like that. We only heard of things like that , happening in Jim Crow Era South. Although Cop Harassment nd beating happened , Nothyng like this was caught on Video , Modern times [90's era] at that time. Today everything is caught on Camera Phones. We were Fuming for our west coast brother's on the East .. A few years later all the compassion we had for our west coast brother's , was soured by East/West HipHop Drama. (Unfortunately) Salute for this one My G 👊

I'm from that early 90s Era. From my perspective, us youngsters had to be shooters because of what you stated. The "OGs" were all coming home from the 70s, yall generation (those that would have been in their 20s) were older and the hustlers during the crack Era. Some of the "OGs" swore they could come back to the block on some "Deebo" shit after doing time, and yall generation not as big and as buff, but got a gang of guns and money because the crack epidemic is full effect and there's a gang of money. So, yall wasn't playing some of these OGS anymore. And the ones that didn't do time, were all smoked out. Us youngsters looked up to yall generation and had no intentions of fighting, we saw the true respect came from those that were hustling and were shooters. I say the late 80s early 90s were the worst. It truly was the wild, wild west.

Yeah I mentioned that in the operation hammer history. That’s when hip hop basketball and gangs was all one genre for blacks in the community.
