One suggestion for your amazing electrophorus. Duplicate that big metal panel and put several metal panels on a big wheel. Rotate the wheel so that each metal panel passes by that styrofoam.

When I was in aircraft mechanics school in 1964, we found that it was great fun to charge capacitors from magnetos to a high voltage and then drop them into the shirt pocket of a fellow trainee. I can see you charging up your monster capacitor there and then asking your wife to hold it for you. Just sayin'.

Yes, but not nearly as long. Humidity really accelerates leakage from the charged surface.
