Nothing, nothing, NOTHING gives me chills like Bob Fosse choreography. You know it's his in 3 seconds. It compares to nobody's!! He was the best ever!

That he had 10 women, each doing something different, but perfectly in harmony - and that taking one of them off the stage, or putting another one on, would have required different choreography to work - just impressive as hell.

i can see that this number is precisely choreographed to look as if they are not so choreographed and random...every time they freeze...the poses they stroke is well proportionate and they look great on stage..well-balanced...bob fosse is a genius!

I worked as an usherette in the 60's and watched the movie Sweet Charity over and over every night for months. Now this song oftens pops in my head usually when I'm sitting in the car waiting for someone. "The minute you walked in the joint....." This group does an amazing rendition of it.

Brilliant choreography and performance almost spoiled by the television director's insistence on showing off that he can cut to close ups. There is a reason Gene Kelly's performances were always filmed single-camera and full body.

Okay maybe i'm seeing way to deeply into this. I love this song and choreography soo much!! But tell me if this makes sense. Is the reason why they're speaking in like monotone voices and repeating words and staying still showing that these girls do this so much that it's almost like robotic to them. and their almost emotionless with their lifestyle now(thecharacters) and maybe when they do dance (on the hey big spender! part) that they're secretly frustrated. thats why they thrash around?im

Hey I know this comment is like 6-year old but just wanna say your understanding about this number is absolutely correct. And that’s why it’s so damn hard to perform right. The lyrics might suggest sexiness and seductiveness but these show girls are basically dead inside, therefore not only do you have to sing and dance but also act the hell out of the parts. I’ve seen performances with the performers being all smiley and cheerful and it was just soooo painful to watch.

This is brilliant and definitely sexy! What I love best is how Fosse arranged this to show the weariness and the insincerity of the women. They're saying "fun, laughs, good times" but their body language and tone make it clear that even they don't believe it.

Absolutely Lightshade! This one number runs a huge gamut of desperation, debauchery, hardened hearts, disappointments, I could do five pages myself! And then to see so much crummy derivative stuff come from Fosse, not inspired by, just truly thin rip offs... This piece is amazing for all it does dramatically. Genius!

Fosse was one in 10 million. Broadway performing requires far more self-discipline than film acting, here's a good example of the demands on the body-voice-brain. From what I've heard, the stars that last rehearse, perform, sleep, have fun once in awhile and mostly take very good care of themselves. They have to.

Really, people under-appreciate just how brilliant Bob Fosse was. I could do a five-page analysis of this number, but since that would take too long, all I can say is a man who can take ten women, put them against a simple bar, and turn it into a musical number that completely draws in the watcher and still makes them notice all ten individuals is nothing short of genius.

@DannyHiggs One thing you have to understand is that the film of Sweet charity has 10 hours of unused film for this one scene alone. Unlike live stage where you have 1 time to get it right you can cut and retake in film all you want. and then use all the film, splice it and make it look perfect. If you gave these ladies the same option it could and would look just as good.
