When I was a kid, in the summer, we'd take our gear and a bedroll a fish from just west of that stretch all the way into Dickerson. Big browns and hardly any planters. It is great to see the river has come back as a fishery.

I love the all the sounds; babbling water of a flowing River, fish jumping and the screaming drag on the reel as the fish peels the line off!

It’s better than any song that’s ever been played on the radio

Excellent video, gentlemen. We’ve been in Reno 20 years and I haven’t spent much time on the Truckee because we’re fortunate to have so many other opportunities in the region that aren’t within earshot of an interstate highway. But I’m trying to change that in 2023. Thanks!
@ReelsandRidges Жыл бұрын
Thanks 👊. Yeah you don’t always get the quiet ambience you want on the Truckee haha but the upside is you can get to your fishing spots pretty quick so it makes it possible to fish after work for a few hours!

My guess on the deer is they were road kill from I80 and thats where NDOT dumps them.
@ReelsandRidges Жыл бұрын
I think that’s a pretty good guess!

I love your guises videos and watch them every time they come out! Just curious, did your fish take your nymph or your stone?
@ReelsandRidges Жыл бұрын
That’s awesome, thanks for watching! All the fish in the video took the nymphs

About 5 years ago I came across 3 dead deer in the same area. The backstraps and antlers were taken but nothing else. Reported it to NDOW and was told it was most likely poachers.

That’s too bad, glad you reported it. Hate to see stuff like that

Yeah the Truckee can be tough to fish sometimes but it is absolutely one of our favorites

I’m guessing those deer drowned in that canal,floated down to the grate intake and were left there by the maintenance guy!
@ReelsandRidges Жыл бұрын
I hope for their sake that isn’t what happened but that seems pretty plausible, it would be tough for a deer to get out of that canal

Here is a pointer from an old guy, when I hang up, a lot of time I will throw slack up stream from the hang up, and the with the line up stream haul back on the rod, not hook set haul but gently and quickly. The tension from the line in the water will pull the fly upstream and a lot of the time it will come loose. On another note, those fish are pretty worn out by the time you get them in the net, you really shouldn't take their heads out of the water for any time at all. we all like the glory shots, but there won't be any of the fish die because of lack of oxygen. No malice intended, just a friend reminder that the fish we catch today may be the fish we catch next week, if we take care of them.

By the looks of it I'm guessing that's the Nevada side and I can tell you with pretty good confidence with that dear pile is. It's called a poachers pile. I'll let you guess the rest. And no I don't do that😂
@ReelsandRidges10 ай бұрын
If that is the case, it’s a real shame. Sadly, that seems like a pretty plausible explanation

If you decide to get one you might want to get one size up from what you normally wear, they run slightly small

@mac979s1 Жыл бұрын
i think it was coyotes!

Could have been! The coyote population around here seems to be doing pretty well
@Cannabiscraftcollective11 ай бұрын
They dump the deer back there that's been hit by cars on the highway
@ReelsandRidges11 ай бұрын
There was another comment awhile back that mentioned they might be deer hit on I80 as well, that would definitely explain it
@BornN2Grave1 Жыл бұрын
Coyotes or lions would team up on one deer. Not possible, IMO, to take all 3. I'm guessing hunters dumped them there after removing the meat. Or the lazy knucklehead that is in charge of collecting roadkill dumped them there instead of the designated spot where he is supposed to.
@ReelsandRidges Жыл бұрын
We were wondering if maybe they were 3 kills made at different times and brought back to the same spot, not sure though. The lazy roadkill collector is a solid theory 😂
