I got to see Big Star at the Fillmore in the early 90s with Jody and Alex backed up by two lovely fellows from the Posies... truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget

Watched this doc a few years back, it is truly great. A well-told story about how a great band just never quite cracked the mainstream but would be cited as one of the biggest influences of some of the great bands of the 80s and 90s. If you like music and you like docs.... do not miss this one!

Well, one of their songs is in two of my favourite shows, and even though the particular song makes me cry and regret my past, I keep listening to it. So thanks Big Star. Seriously.

Lesson to be learned by all musicians: choose the right people to manage your business. It's after all show business.

Big Star was furthest thing from entertainment business. They really just expressed their variation on pop music which was not meant for wide consumption. My favorite band along with Velvets.

It's odd...all the indie bands sound like them...and they were rock n roll / classic rock band

There's an instrumental bit with strings and hand claps (?) that plays under the opening credits of this doc; does anyone know if it's a Big Star cover? I really like it, whatever it is.

I really want to see this film but living in the UK it seems that I can't. Can anyone help?

Out of all the bands shown in this documentary the only one who seemed whimsical and still has a sense of fun about them was Cheap Trick, they have always made it look fun to be rock stars..clown princes.

Mike Mills from REM was featured. REM took themselves to serious at times, but they also had a fun side (ex. "Superman" and much of the Out of Time album)

Shouldn't use the c-word. It hurts people's feelings . You could replace it with words like annoying, bothersome ect.

The context of your comment is unclear. It looks like you're agreeing with MrSmekalka, and the comment comes off as someone who's a hateful bigot, as opposed to an injured Big Star fan who chose to respond with acid-tinged sarcasm.

hey ive got no have against big star but. ill say what someone said to me once in a shitty bar playing my soul to creeps. "they missed their calling". it hurts . just happens. i think other great 70's bands shouldve got more fame like hot tuna, ten tears after, moby grape, silver apples, jack bruce , ian hunter.

@@DSilvergun the screenwriter Jonathon Demme was a huge big star fan, he also did a film with talking heads. Thomas Harris the author, went to university in Texas and would most definitely have heard of Alex Chilton through his earlier success: the letter, later recorded by Joe cocker among other things.
