Big Steve at Fun City NYC Does a Fineline Cherub Chest Tattoo | Tattoodo | Sessions

In this episode of Sessions, we catch up with Big Steve, owner of the infamous Fun City Tattoo in the East Village of New York City, while he inks up a sweet lil' cherub chest tattoo. Known for his fineline style, he talks about how he got started in the tattoo industry and why his studio is unique.
You may not know it, but Fun City Tattoo is actually the oldest tattoo shop in Manhattan. Located on St. Marks, Big Steve now owns an important piece of New York-based tattoo history. He's been working there for over 18 years, and not only lends his own talent to the studio but also brings in other incredibly talented tattooists.
Big Steve talks about how he got into tattooing through his mom. She happened to get a tattoo when Big Steve was 12 and he remembers thinking that, from then on, he regarded tattooing as something he wanted to do. So, he started drawing more and over the years he’s cultivated a mode of expression that can embrace many different aesthetics, tattoo styles, and iconographies.
Fun City is an iconic mainstay of the New York tattoo industry and Big Steve mentions that he thinks one of the main things they can give to clients is a relaxed atmosphere. While some NYC tattoo studios can feel a bit intimidating, this spot isn’t pretentious or stuck-up. They just love to give great artwork that will last a lifetime to people who stop on by. Big Steve says it simple, “...give people what they want. Make people happy.”
