Loving the series JC! Try fishing for the catfish with chicken liver! I always wrap some sewing thread around it to keep from flinging it off, but I've heard of people using panty hose to keep it on somehow.

No, a warmouth is not a bass; it is a member of the sunfish family, not the bass family, and is often confused with other sunfish like the rock bass or green sunfish due to its large mouth, but it is a distinct species on its own.

Never knew anyone calling a Warmouth a bass nor a perch. Being a native. We all knew this species a warmouth (Lepomis gulosus) is a freshwater sunfish native to the eastern United States. They are also known as redeye, molly, goggle-eye, strawberry perch, and red-eyed bream. Appearance: Stout, thick-bodied fish with olive-brown backs and sides, dark brown mottling, and light yellow bellies. They have red eyes, short rounded pectoral fins, and 4-5 reddish-brown streaks radiating from their eyes. All those canal fish you're eating be careful. Mercury levels are very high and herbicides are crazy from the sugar farms and the government spraying weed killers. Officials say to eat only 6 ounces a week of fish and never eat bass. I know they are tasty and plentiful but it comes with a price. Check the data with FWC. I was eating too much and was dealing with head aches I couldn't get rid of for weeks. A warmouth is a sunfish and so is a largemouth and smallmouth. They are the largest member of the sunfish family. About the only member of the bass family in Florida is a striper. Not sure if they have white bass in Florida. The white perch in the Great Lakes is actually a yellow bass.
