His wing begging looks like it takes a lot of energy to do! It seemed as though he was dancing to me! Thank you, M’Lady! My prayers go out for Iniko to fledge successfully, and to have a successful and thriving Condor life! I am always appreciative of every video I get to see that you upload! God bless you and your family, and keep you safe from harm! God bless us, every one!

Thank you Carolyn! The wing begging is the only way a condor parent knows to feed their chick. That is why when Iniko was not displaying this wing begging when the biologists were watching him and noticed he seemed weak and lethargic - they became very concerned for his safety. But thankfully Iniko looks good and seems to be thriving even with only one parent feeding him, ♥♥

It’s nice that there is a condor sanctuary, especially for Redwood Queen who now has to do all the feedings for Iniko.

Iniko is a survivor and I'm so glad he/she made it through. It breaks my heart to see how charred their world is. It must not be easy finding food.

Yes that is why they are putting out supplemental food to help the condors be able to feed their chicks and themselves during this terrible time!

I just love watching Iniko. He is so cute. Wouldn't it be awesome to watch him fly? He sure is exploring and wingercizing and climbing to new heights. Glad Mom is feeding him. I'm so grateful for the Sanctuary, as these birds need a place to receive supplementary food. Bless the local farmers for their contributions. Thanks for the great video Lady Hawk.

You are very welcome CE!! It is nice to see Redwood Queen back two days in a row to feed Iniko! It is harder on her than the other females in the flock as she is now the sole provider for her chick. But she is doing a great job!!

Lady Hawk, a question ~ do you think that Redwood Queen will try to get sweet Iniko to follow her and fly to the Condor Sanctuary where they can get feeding provided. Iniko is doing a lot of flapping, and like all youngsters will probably accidentally fledge. The safest place for Iniko after fledging is the Condor Sanctuary. (As you can see I am worrying about Iniko's immediate future). LOL. There are better skilled people than me looking after Iniko. LOL.
@ladyhawk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Valda I think that we might see Iniko and Redwood Queen at the sanctuary to try and feed. Redwood Queen has a large territory that she flies each day in search of food and it is fortunate that the biologists are providing supplemental food for the condors to help with the devastation to the area and wildlife. The biologists do keep track of all the fledgings as well - making sure they are safe.
@valdarichards42394 жыл бұрын
@@ladyhawk , since these posts Sweet Iniko accidentally fledged and broke a leg! We are all aware Iniko's keepers have gathered her up and taken her to the sanctuary. Isn't Iniko huge, I saw the footage of her being collected, she is a giant bird, attacking her keepers... Tests confirmed Iniko is female, and her broken leg is being tended to. Iniko is enjoying the benefits of both worlds, she is a wild bird but fortunately she gets medical treatment (thank goodness) her broken leg means she is in the sanctuary, I am relieved about that. Redwood Queen was doing her best but they miss KingPin. (R.I.P. KingPin).

Kingpin was last seen the day before the fire consumed the sanctuary. He was taking up water with several other condors and then that evening the fire came in and destroyed the sanctuary. So very sad - he and other missing condors must have been roosting nearby and could not escape the fire when he came through.
@LeoAsc4 жыл бұрын
@@ladyhawk Thank you. That is heartbreaking, I was hoping he and the others who were drinking water that evening may have escaped.

Love it that he can go up to the ceiling, but will he fledge from there? Will the camera pick up his fledgling? Still, I am just happy that he is alive. Thanks for the video.
@ladyhawk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Delores we may see Iniko fledge if the cam is live at the time. It is dependent on the solar batteries so it is off for several hours in the morning while they are charging and then sometimes off and on during the day. Talons crossed it is on when Iniko takes that leap of faith!!

What will happen if Redwood Queen's status changes?
@ladyhawk4 жыл бұрын
Hello Andi - Redwood Queen had a pretty low standing in the flock when she was a single female. It was only due to her mating with Kingpin who was the dominant leader of the flock that raised her own status and standing. That was back in 2006 so they have had many years of having the prime feeding spots and prey. Now that RQ is single again, she may see her standing deteriorate with more dominant couples & other males having priority at the carcasses. Condors are social raptors and there is a hierarchy within the flock . Redwood Queen will have to posture and wait to eat once again and when Iniko fledges, he/she will be under her parentage for several more months as his solo provider. Iniko will have a low standing in the flock as a juvenile and one without a strong male presence. Iniko is safe and no other male condor is going to target him or kill him! RQ will not bond with a new male for quite some time- her sole responsibility is to raise Iniko. After Inkio is on his own, and the next breeding season starts, she will be looking to find a new mate and hopefully she will pick one of the stronger single males in the flock. Her best situation is to find the strongest dominant single condor to mate with and then that will evaluate her status once again (but not to the level it was with Kingpin :( If she does not find a mate and remains single next year, her position will deteriorate even more than now.
@ladyhawk4 жыл бұрын
@Mango Steen Hi Margo there is no threat at all for a male condor to come to the nest and harm Iniko. I think you are looking at other raptor nests where rival males will kill the offspring of the female they wish to mate with and take over. That happens with the Verreaux black eagles and can happen with bald eagles. But that does not happen with condors.

I feel badly for Redwood Queen having to take care of Iniko and herself - standing back for food until the other condors are finished eating. Iniko will not have more cuddling sessions since Kingpin is still missing and Redwood Queen has to feed him and then leave right away. So glad the farmers left food for them. It looks like the area was hit by a nuclear bomb! How much further out will the adults travel for food now that so much land and trees have been destroyed? Thanks Lady Hawk!- Stephanie
@ladyhawk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie the condors can travel under normal condition up to 150 miles each day to find food. The supplementary food that is put out here at the sanctuary and also at Pinnacles National Park will help so they do not have fly those distances. It is a change for Redwood Queen to have to wait her turn at feeding now and so will Iniko when he follows Mom. But she had a pretty low standing in the flock before she met Kingpin so she knows what to do!! Let's hope she pairs up with a dominant male once again for next season!!

Вот бы палки там в дупле поправить, чтобы можно на них стоять ровно, как нашест для куриц делают? Вот бы эта птичка и там крылишки расправляла в безопасности что свалится на землю. А то они вертикально стоят, а поперёк хорошо.
