The United States is so afraid of China that it uses a ban on the import of chips as its only means of competition. How does the United States want to become great again if it has become a third-world country that is unable to cope with the fires in California and loses its own military aircraft every week due to the fault of the pilots? Trump, you're a great guy, but how are you going to make the United States great again?

The true issue for Big Tech isn’t that DeepSeek is a Chinese company, it’s that it’s a free open source AI that’s the issue. How are you going to convince users to upgrade to your $20 a month full version of AI when the competitor’s full version is free and is just as powerful as yours? How are you going to convince other companies to pay to use your AI model when they can use DeepSeek’s open source model for free? It’s not just DeepSeek though, ByteDance is also developing their own AI. Whether or not it ends up inside TikTok remains to be seen

It is not the models that worry Nvidia... it is the technique in which Deepseek used to finetune another base model. It shows that models can be finetuned to achieve higher performance in a more efficient way that does not require as much resources as Nvidia wants to sell. Deepseek basically published a paper explaining how they did it and open sourced that stuff so others can build on their research or finetune their models. And if smaller models can achieve the same performance as larger ones, you don't need high-end data center GPUs (expensive!) to run the inference side of things; the smaller models can run on cheaper, consumer-grade hardware.

China can make those themselves. They have SMIC. They have problems with the new stuff because everyone in the industry (including the Americans, Koreans and Taiwanese) use photo lithography machines made by some Dutch company and the US pressured the Netherlands into not selling them to China (making the Netherlands lose billions by the way). But as with this the Chinese will find a solution in due time and they'll be making high tech chips themselves (they already did one for the Huawei phones, we'll see if that's scalable)

DeepSeek’s monthly plan for its AI is *40 times* cheaper than OpenAI’s standard price. This suggests that big U.S. tech companies may be grossly inefficient or overcharging consumers far more than what newer, better alternatives in the global market can now offer. Affordable options like DeepSeek and other emerging low-cost open source AI tools are great choices for Americans looking to save money on their AI usage, especially now that budgets are tight for many people. This is legitimately game changing. I’m beginning to understand why DeepSeek is being a called a “profound gift” to the entire world.

Just wait to you guys find out about quantum computing. That will be the next great technological leap. China and the UK invest more money into this than the USA and it is government funded, but the USA research in this field is purely done by corporations like Google, IBM and NVIDIA. Whoever makes the breakthrough on this will control the world for the next 500 years, but because the USA research is done by corporations, they are looking more to make it a consumer product to monetise, rather than do the research to make the breakthrough and they are being left behind in this field by the Chinese and the British who are not constantly looking to monetise what they are trying to discover. Capitalism is actually hurting the USA in the tech field.

If American consumers choose a cheaper, superior competitor like DeepSeek, then OpenAI's current business model could collapse, potentially signaling doom for other high-priced American AI companies.
