Apple's China iPhone shipments in March were 2.5 million, vs. .5 million in February. With CNBC's Brian Sullivan and the Fast Money traders, Tim Seymour, Steve Grasso, Dan Nathan and Guy Adami.
Apple shipped roughly 2.5 million iPhones in China in March, a slight rebound after one of its worst months in the country ever, according to government data published on Friday.
Smartphone companies are hoping for a strong recovery in demand in China, where the deadly coronavirus is subsiding, just as it spreads overseas and looks set to trigger a global recession.
Mobile phone shipments in China in March totaled 21 million units, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a government think tank.
That was a more than three-fold increase from February, yet still down roughly 20% compared with March 2019.
Chinese retailers largely resumed operations by early March, with brick-and-mortar outlets re-opening and e-commerce logistics getting back in gear after the virus and tough containment measures brought much of the economy to a standstill in the first two months.
Apple shipped roughly 500,000 phones in China in February, according to the CAICT.
Many smartphone makers are now hoping that sales in China can cushion declines in overseas markets in coming months.
In its quarterly earnings call, the then-CFO of Xiaomi said that the Chinese market had recovered to roughly 80% of its normal levels.
The company later wrote a letter to the government of India, one of its largest markets, requesting that it consider smartphones an essential commodity and therefore exempt from shipping restrictions.
Earlier this month several Chinese online retailers slashed prices on iPhone 11 models. Apple has let third-party sellers in China offer discounts in the past in order to spur demand.
The company announces its quarterly earnings results on April 30.

I started shorting when the Dow was at around 22.5k and I thought that was a good deal. Good God Wall Street is in denial that even if this virus passes by I still expect consumer demand to noticeably decrease for the next 18 months

without my friend fed, i cannot even think of this market. babies just sit on fed mama's lap and you will be fine. believe me..that is what happened back in 2009 when fed reacted. now they are proactive and aggressive..don't be fooled by pandemic or businesses closed. stocks are just like commodities...don't try to look for values...

People that don't want to lose their money would be well advised to start listening to what Guy and Dan have been clearly trying to say. Don't get tricked into thinking that the market is just another fiat currency. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.

Biggest crisis in history? 60k Projected US deaths. 80k 2018 Flu deaths. This isn't in the same ballpark as 1929 or WW2 or Even the Spanish Flu. Bad, yes. Worst crisis in our history - not by a long shot

I agree. Unemployment Insurance supplements. Small Business Grants. Stimulus payments. Flattening of the CV curve. Unemployment won't be a big issue for another 4 months when the inflated insurance payments run out. The only thing stopping the economy is the lock down, and even that is only slowing it a little because we can all still shop online, or hit the drive-thru.

Why is it so hard to understand that when the Fed pumps Trillions into the economy and promises Trillions more the market will go up? If the Fed buys Trillions in bonds the person who sold the bonds has to put the money somewhere. Like with all the QE guess where the money is going?

I think it could be because people worry the dollar could fall and at least owning multinational companies is a hedge? Plus obviously the fed printing 5 trillion. I wondered in Feb why the market was going up too. People just always figure the fed will bail them out. As far as Apple goes, even my daughter and sister (both 10+ yr Apple fanatics and promoters) got a Google Pixel. So I bought a share of Google, which I wanted to do when it was $350 but I didnt have any money to invest back then. If Amazon would split or something to $200 per share or less, I would consider it, but wouldnt want to risk $2000 with all that's going on. Consumers are not that loyal to a particular retailer long term, but I hear it's the AWS people are betting on. I dont understand that though since other competitors could reduce prices and profit margin could go down long term.

Someone on CNBC once said, "You should stop watching CNBC, buy indexes low and hold them. The average investor buys on emotion, chases and buys high and then sells low in fear." I foolishly kept listening to CNBC, trying to understand when to buy/sell. The experts on these shows are lost, even with their screens full of impressive looking data behind them. They are perplexed and yet try to keep the viewers on the hook for more. Isn't it the case that the market is always looking out 9-15 months, pricing everything in in the next 9 months already, before I could even press "send" on my order? The market doesn't care about this quarter. Why do these guys talk about this quarter? Proven by the last six days of fast rising, while 17 million new unemployment claims are filed and bankruptcies are around the corner. All priced in.

The market only price in what can be confidently priced in, meaning it generally has high confidence in pricing in things 6-9 months ahead. Usually that works, and economic data such as unemployment become lagging indicators. In this case, since this is suppose to be one of the most uncertain markets in the world, and this is suppose to be a crisis greater than the financial crash of 2008 and might even be on par or worse than the great depression, lagging indicators become leading indicators in the short run. One example is that they clearly cannot price in the value of the market with their forecast because there is too much uncertainty in the data, therefore these markets tend to be dominated by short term traders, day traders who not only bet on a quarterly window but even shorter windows than that. We cannot even comprehend how much economic data this crisis has caused because all of the numbers are currently being sorted out. This in particular is a very strategic point for many investors also since we are at the 50% point of market recovery, basically the golden ceiling/floor where the bulls and bears battle it out to determine victory for the next few months. So no, nothing is priced in yet, this is technical trading happening, can still be a bull trap, and volatility will be the name of the game for the next couple of months. We are just hitting our stride on the fibonuacci retracement levels where things start getting extremely heated. 50% is an important marker for the market recovery, but this is where you must be prepared for heaven or hell.

@@henrytep8884 Thank you, Henry. I appreciate your thoughts. And, if it's heaven or hell and no one knows, why watch or read any of this? It's just guesswork. Today Goldman says things will look good by September and others say hell to pay. Isn't buy and hold the only solution if I'm not skilled to be a day trader? But the question today is, buy when? Yikes.
