I had JBL car audio 30 years ago before I even knew what JBL was. They were not one of the locally popular brands but the sound was amazing. I’ve been a fan ever since.

I don't mean to be overly negative, just keepin' it real. One thing I noticed with Harman's prior recent products is that they very prematurely released them into the wild. Arcam, especially, was terribly bug prone and took numerous firmware updates to get half-way stable products. JBL Synthesis's 16-channel processors, which hit the street a bit later, weren't a whole heck of a lot better. The luxury SDP-75 is a rebadged Trinnov Altitude, but then you have another layer, JBL, between the customer and Trinnov. I hope, for everyone's sake, they learned some valuable lessons. They can't just be a somewhat better brand than Emotiva, they must strive for greater.

Yeah, that's what kept me from pulling the trigger on a AVM-40 or SDP-55 after the HTP-1 became unobtainium. Luckily my timeframe for having my HT space completed was very far in the future, so now both platforms have become relatively bug-free thanks to various firmware fixes. But I agree that they should have never been released in that state to begin with, regardless of whatever price point they were targeting.

I am returning my AVR20 for this exact reason. It is still so glitchy. So many bugs. So many small issues. It is so bad we’re going back to half broken Marantz in the time being…

For those of us in the in-between world for budget, how is Anthem stuff? Like am I better off getting a AVM70 or getting a new Denon x4800 and using the preouts (while waiting for Dirac to be available)?

I’m with you. I got an avr10 to use as a pre and it had so many issues. You can find so many used for sale on eBay because people just get tired of dealing with issues. I also got an Anthem and also had issues with fan noise, cec not working properly and airplay not always working. Seems that everything new out there has issues nowadays. I’m back to my older audiocontrol avr9 and works great it just doesn’t have Spotify connect or AirPlay which I would like.

@@commanderrussels2612 If you want the equivalent Sound United product you need to wait for the Denon 6800 and use the pre-amp mode (if they announce one). If you honestly don't need HDMI 2.1 on all ports (or really at all), then be on the lookout for clearance sales of the 6700. One thing you will get with the Denon 6700 and above, and not with Anthem, is: DTS: X Pro.

I've been a JBL fan for several decades. I like seeing the new equipment and innovations in the audio/video world. I'm glad that I've been able to put together two really great H/T systems and an excellent sounding music listening-station over time. This new equipment has just about priced me out of the audiophile world. Or at least what I would be willing to pay for it. But I still love l👀king at it!

OK the inwall disappearing speakers from JBL is amazing...but I have a concern. If you are using normal mud when drywall finishing them into the wall wouldn't the mud eventually break free from the speakers from the micro vibrations? Let me know if my concern is valid. Hoping Home Theater is coming back, with new technologies in sound, and especially 4K and 8K "affordable" projectors. I built a 17 speaker surround theater years ago, and it still performs amazingly..... the thing really sets it apart is stereo subs, JBL W15GTi's mounted in two refrigerator size enclosures, dual 15" passive radiators per enclosure. Very interesting, and informative video. Thank you for bringing us along!!

the jbl synthesis processor with dante out is the only option currently for truly high end systems. Until trinnov makes AES avaiable. StormAudio has digital out as well i think. But the other options are more expensive and when u just go digital out then the rest really is worthless anyway. So i like JBL because they have one of the very few interesting parts out there in home theatre.

One thing that was never addressed - Jim said that there were dedicated amps being built for the SSW-1 subwoofer. Are we to assume that those are the DSi 2.0 Cinema series amps that he showed at the start of the electronics tour?

@@Youthman That would definitely be a need to know, because I'd rather go for an all-JBL system rather than a McIntosh amp that's more expensive than half the speakers combined and quite possibly incompatible with the Dante system. On a related note: the DSi amps only have the published 1kHz PEAK burst power rating, and yet the MA4-D (2600W peak bridged @ 8 ohms) is on the record as being the recommended amplifier for the SSW-1 on JBL's own website.

It's impossible to get clear sound through paint. Especially paint that has multiple layers. Paint blocks all air passeges. Sound needs air passeges in order to create tones. Painting over this will cause harsh sound.

GREAT systems to get for ALL those making $500,000+ a year. And have dedicated home theater rooms Bigger than my entire Home😲 Needing at LEAST two amps pushing 5000 watts RMS continuous for Subs alone..OR a 10,000 watt amp IF you can find one.Then u need a 16 channel AVR about $10,000 or more Each..yeah ok I'll take Two.🤨

For $1600 you could just get the new Denon X3800H which is better and has more features by far from what the Acram $2000 entry-level ripoff has to offer. And class G is nothing more than a class AB with an adjustable (usually 2 levels) DC supply for better efficiency and slightly lower crossover distortion, which is inaudible.

@@awwbollocksthen1359 Analog sounding means lower SINAD (higher distortion which gives a subjective warmth perception to some people). I prefer clean and pure sound, which you can only get from a digital source. The X3800H will soon get Dirac Live and even bass control and spatial room correction.

I was thinking about going to one of these type shows not far from where we live until I looked into it and saw that it is not in a large open space like this show but instead it is held in a bunch of hotel rooms and you have to pay to get in. Seems a bit odd to have to pay in order to be sold to.

That is typical of most trade shows. We have one locally called the Florida Audio Expo. Audio Advice Live and Axpona are set up this way as well. I’m not opposed to them charging. If you go to your local gun show or a craft show or any other show, you’re likely going to have to pay for parking and pay to enter

Heavier typically means more internal bracing to prevent resonances in the cabinet, much beefier motor structure of the subwoofer etc. I would not expect a 15” subwoofer that weighs 30 lbs to have any level of performance.

Having the gift to hear and to hear very well should be valued highly. It seems that everyone is in a contest to lose their hearing these days. No music needs to be loud. It needs to be clear and pronounced by hi-fi gear like Dynaudio, NAD, Marantz, Rotel, Acoustic Research (gone), Polk and other high quality brands.

JBL needs to step up their sub game. Less ports. less group delay, go big 21", 12"/15" for large rooms is a toy. There's a reason all the serious DIY builds go 18"+ - as they guy said it's physics. You need surface area.

WOW!! I love those Concealed in-wall speakers. Would have love to buy these for my atmos and surround speakers too bad I bought mine already. I will have to wait a long while before replacing existing one with these. They would make the back wall and ceiling so clean. Can't wait for actual review of these concealed inwall speakers. I really hope they good enough so they can replace my Fronts and Centers then I can commit myself to replace the whole system to have a nice clean living room with nice sounds.

$8250 for their 'flagship' subwoofer?!?! A ridiculous price for the performance offered. And it's a passive enclosure ffs! For that cost, you can DIY LF enclosures that perform literally twice as good as that JBL enclosure does. Don't get me wrong. JBL enclosures and drivers are top notch quality and engineering. But the price they're asking is so OTT it's not even funny...

Wow…Anthem is missing the boat! Youthman’s reviews is what I used as a guide to buy and set up my home theater. I didn’t buy anything that Michael did review and posted. Purchased JVC NZ8, Marantz 8015, Emotiva amps, SVS Subs etc. all after watching Youthman video reviews. Anthem needs to realize that your channel is very influential for a lot of HT enthusiasts. Yes they were giving demos all day which was why we didn’t get in there. I came before the Expo hours to get a few pans of the two demo rooms which I showed at the beginning of the video but did not have an opportunity to hear either of their demo rooms due to the 12 videos that I filmed in the 3 day spam
