This video was taken before it would get a 14-month refurbishment that included an entire replacement of new track (similar to the Space Mountain refurbishment) by Dynamic Attractions, new trains, new scenery, and new effects. It reopened on March 17, 2014.

The ride is SO much better now than it was! Now it's really REALLY smooth, there's some things that have been refurbished/slightly altered, and there's one really big awesome thing added at the end....I won't spoil it, but I can't wait until it's back open!

miracle tv I rode this in 2nd grade, all I remember was that the only drop feelings you'll get are the little bumps. Everything else is just turns and a nice breeze in your face c: this was my first coaster.

+Jasmine Ramos Go to City Hall as soon as you get there, the buttons are free. It's right beside the firehall on the left hand side when you walk into the magic Kingdom. They write your name on it and everything, plus whoever else goes with you can get free buttons that say "I'm Celebrating".

I love this ride and scenery!!! Complete immersion in the Far West. In Disneyland Paris there is a complete story about Frontierland ( Big thunder' s mine + Phantom Manor). At Disneyland Paris in the last part of this ride there is a brutal acceleration in the dark. (more intensity for the conclusion).

I went on this ride more than once with my parents until my mom got diagnosed with vertigo. So sad that Disneyland and all of the other theme parks are closed during an outbreak in Spring-Winter 2020. 😭👍🏻 if you're watching this ride video in quarantine even though COVID-19 sucks. 💙😢

Is the ride supposed to be pronounced (Big Thunder Mountain) (Railroad) or (Big) (Thunder Mountain Railroad) Because if its pronounced the 2nd way it sounds dumb because it sounds like they're just putting BIG! at the start for no reason

The mountain is called "Big Thunder Mountain", therefore it is the "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad", not a "Thunder Mountain" railroad that is big. lol I hope that makes sense. There is no emphasis on Big.

the front seats go down the hill too slow until all the weight kicks in. all the fun of this ride is in the back because you feel all the sharp turns and drops more. esp when you turn your body to the goat, you feel the whiplash!

I can tell a better story. I was there 2 months ago on a school field trip. I went on Splash Mountain, and it broke down, and we were about to go down the big drop. One of the employees got us out of there, and they took us outside the park, and we got a free fast pass! But, it was only for 1 ride only. So, we went on the Indiana Jones ride because the wait for the regular ride was long. It gets better, later, we decided to just wait in the long line for Splash Mountain, and it was worth it. :)

@vito582, I think that was one of them. the one i'm most familier with is the train at the front came disconnected with the actually seating, the train went up a hill, didn't get enough speed, and went backwards crushing the man in front, and i think giving the other one a concussion. Its scary, because i sat in the front seat once, and there was a pink heart in the middle of the row. After that i was so terrified, I now only ask to sit in the back row. >.

I miss this ride. The refurbishment fells like it is taking forever. Without Big Thunder Mountain running, Frontierland just looks empty (yes, I know that they still have the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Rafts to Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island, but it is just not the same without Big Thunder Mountain).

If you guys ever ride this coaster again, here's a tip. Get the BACK seat. The front is nowhere near as fun as the back, trust me. I rode the front and it wasn't that fun. But the back seat was way betterxD

@elolification All of the BTM rides are slightly different to each other but the one in Paris is closer to the California one except for the tunnels that travel under the river and it's more themed if I remember correctly.

This ride was freakin frightning for me. On Sept 27, 2001. For my 15tn birthday I went with my family to Walt Disney World. Went on this ride with my dad. I will never do that again!!! he is much bigger than me and I was hanging on for dear life since the lap bar was at my stomach. I love rollercoasters, but since I was clinging to the lap bar I didn't get to enjoy it. Next time I won't ride with him. LOL

I have a tip for this ride. Ride it at night with your eyes closed. It'll make the ride more thrilling. Trust me, it really works.

Not sad, very necessary. My dad is actually an engineer who will helping to refurbish this ride. It is mostly for safety reasons. Those trains are very old, and after the accident in 2003, Disney takes no chances. All of these coasters get old at some point and need work, just like cars or airplanes. Tracks need to be replaced, etc.

after experimenting on this ride and being on back, front and middle, the front is very slow, and so is the back oddly. the fastest feeling area is the middle. i think because in the front, youre waiting for the back to be done taking up the track. in the back the front hit the breaks when you barely start going down yourself, so its slow. so the middle is just right!

never ride in the front on Big Thunder. There isn't any momentum. The further back you are, the better! Trust me! I went on the front--because when you are a kid its really important to ride in the front of every ride- but on this ride it just sucks. So go for the back! That's the best seat!

Read the comments, they're not redoing the whole ride, they are merely fixing it up. New trains (identical to the old ones), new track (but nothing affecting the layout of the ride) and repainting the mountain. It's actually for the better

You can just ask, generally people don't want to sit in front, especially on this ride, so it isn't hard to get front seats. I wish he would do a back seat point of view because right after that last climb has a great view of the park.

Just for people who don`t know what he`s talking about, it is the ride in 2003 when the engine detached from the rails, when airborn, and landed on the front cart, instantly killing someone IN the front cart.

This ride is AMAZING if u know how to ride it :) sit in the back, on the left side of the seat, watch the goat all the way around, an stay there for the 2nd spinny part and it's very fun, my bro and I LOVE IT!

@myapets yes I am sure. When you ride in the front and you go down on the hills, you go slower. You can see and feel how slow you are going on those parts. But as you get further back there is more speed and momentum.
