Are those bass or trouts? Setting hooks like bass fishing

In the late 1970's I drove from Cal. to Panguitch lake, we stopped to gas up the truck & this guy had a 60 qt. Igloo cooler with a monster lake trout cought in the lake. This trouts head was sticking over the edge of this cooler by at least 6" & the tail at the other end of the cooler was at least 6" over the other end. Monster was not good enough for a name of the beast of a trout. Over all length of it was 50"..

Panguitch will never be as good as minersville reservoir until panguitch start a program to regulate spinning gear fisherman.

No wonder it is the most common citation--better just let every single fish go as it is far too confusing, but I DO think I got it--let's see: rainbows up to the limit, any size. Cuts and Tigers, slot limit but one over the top end, two under the bottom end?

Love Utah ...... never fished in Panguitch Lake, but did fish the lake outlet many times back in the late eighties, and again in early 2000's. Spent many many weekends camping in the mountains above Cedar City, and NW of St. George. Don't recall catching Tiger Trout in any of the lakes in that area back then, but there were some beautiful butter-colored fall browns and hard fighting rainbows/cutties, with the odd brook trout in the high mountain lakes. I remember seeing Navajo Lake get poisoned to kill off the perch (I believe), and quite a few eagles picking them from the water and bank. Thanks for posting .... hope to get back to Utah in the years to come. Take care.

I would say "release gently" not "throw it out". And honestly, even if not required, bend those barbs down, much easier to let a fish go, in fact, with barbless, you can just use your needle nose and slip the hook, not lifting the fish at all. Just an opinion.

Quit gill punching those fish! KSL outdoors teaching bad etiquette.

I was really surprised that big fish did not seem to be taking any line--of any kind, wow. What was that--super line like a braid, and locked down drag? Seemed to do the job. I have heard the argument that when you want to release, it is better to not let them run to exhaustion, is that what was going on?

Just wondering if fishing is still hot on Panguitch because its been almost a month since this episode has been filmed. Would love to make a trip down there soon to get myself on my first tiger and cutthroat of 2017.
