I really liked the down track view. Really helps you to see how quick these cars can accelerate. Nice video.

Man! When I heard the exhaust from the blue car from 3:00 to 3:10, It made me jump a little bit because I wasn’t expecting that car to be so loud. I thought he was going to give it a bit of throttle and then when the light turned green go full throttle but no, he went pedal to the metal before the light went green. That’s what made me jump. Great race though!!

You really hear both cars there. They go up on a 2 step (rev limiter) so they launch at a high but predetermined RPM.

I remember the guys that really started this style of racing & the Pro Mod class. They were called "The Wild Bunch" and they started in the late 70's/early 80's. Saw them run a few times as a teenager at New England Dragway when I worked there. They had some badass cars and "No Prep" was the norm back then. Dr. Wacko in his blown CJ 5 Jeep, Camp Stanley in his Chevy Luv truck, & Tommy Howes in his 280Z along w/a few others. There's an old Diamond P video of them here on KZbin. Some of the footage is at New England Dragway when I worked there. Man I miss those days.

Geez, we need some of these cars at Irwindale drag strip.We ocassionally get a car that runs 4.88 in the 1/8.To us, that's a rocket ship.
@MUDBOY_V.16 жыл бұрын
william settle its funny that you call a car that does 4s in an 1/8 mile is a rocket then down in australia theres cars that run 4s in a 1/4 mile
@snipeatyou6 жыл бұрын
Josep Labbo those are top fuel cars and those aren't really cars and we have them also but we no longer run 1/4 mile after a racer died because he was knocked unconscious and therefore wasn't able to open the parachute and went straight through the sand trap so we only run to the 1000' in our top fuel classes

Why are they called "street machines"? You couldn't really drive these on the street, could you?
@buddylewis35768 жыл бұрын
yes all u need is head lights tail lights and a licence plate
@tideivlife18 жыл бұрын
Yes you could. There's a group of promod drivers that drive their cars (towing small trailers too) around the country to different tracks and run sub-6 ET 1/4's. These guys drive to the track and turn the same ET's as top fuel and funny cars did in the 1970's.
@dennisthompson47258 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's amazing. I went to New England Dragway when I was a kid in the 70's. The top fuel dragsters were in the low six second range then. It's wild that you can drive something as powerful as these cars are on the street.

You work hard all week, don't waste your money and turn your wrenches at night. You accumulate the hardware and knowledge over time and LISTEN TO THOSE THAT CAME BEFORE YOU. There's always folks at the track that'll be happy to give you sound advice.

Also hang with the rite people n use there "leftover" parts that work with ur motor combo. Heads high flow(ported to match intake n raise compression) 13:1 pistons(for ur application), quality valvetrain(with roller rockers) camshaft (w/.680 lift n 260 duration @ .050) most important 8-9" 5,000rpm torque converter. Will be a reliable 750-800hp motor. Can squirt it, but better have a well machined bottom end with good rods n crank. Not bad for 6500rpm motor that costs less than 8k to build n will not overheat in traffic w/112 octane. Good smallblock combo up to 420ci. Never had a complaint running 5.80's n 9.20's in 3000lbs. Ask around.
