In todays video I'm out doing some photography with a big tripod. K&F Concept sent me through their T254A8 tripod (was the SA254T1 tripod) to test out It's very tall and has some great features. It's also not very expensive. So... I was really interested to see if it was any good.
Personally I don't see how to really review a tripod without using it in the field and actually doing some photography so I'm out on a beach on a cloudy day to put this big tripod through its paces.
I hope you'll enjoy the video

Lovely little video Ralph, tripods are so essential to us photographers and having a real world review will help many of us when it comes to renewing them. I did think it would be a tad unstable when fully extended but that applies to almost every tripod on the market. Thanks for sharing and have a great week 🙏🙏🙏

Glad you liked it Izzy. Totally agree, pretty much any tripod will get a bit wobbly if you extend them like that but for the money I think it's pretty good (and now more than most times many people are having to keep an eye on cost), Thank you for watching and commenting and have a great week yourself

That's a tall tripod, never seen one that size! Great review, great price. Did well in the wind, loved your B&W photo. Many thanks for sharing your work and review on the K&F Big tripod Ralph :)

I have seen a Gitzo GT5563GS that goes up to 2.78m (about 9 feet)! Gitzo simply calls it "Giant"! 🤣 Then Leofoto has a tripod LS-324CXL that has a maximal hights of 2.08m (without a center column). Both are carbon fibre and much more stable than this K&F Concept. But they also colst a lot more!😇

A former client gave me a tripod and, only once have I been able to use it.. And it is heavy, , awkward and the camera doesn't stay in position. This one that you describe sounds and seems like a great tool. Thank-you so much

it appears that the tripod has some great features. I am not in fond of centre columns though, particularly the extended ones as I feel that it does wobble quite a bit under windy conditions. Thanks for sharing this info Ralph!!

I do think an optional short column would be a great addition to this. It's pretty tall without a centre column so would be useful. In the right conditions the extra height can be handy however but, in general, I prefer no centre column as well. Thank you for watching and commenting Thanos

Nice Tripod. The material it is made of, will over a long period on time, corrode from sea air/ sea water. Aluminum frames of screen rooms in Florida start to corrode in six to ten years. I don't think you need to worry, yours has a color treatment that will protect it. The height is a great plus, the images will look great.

Yes... Aluminium does corrode and that's one of the reasons why carbon fibre is more popular. However, for the price.... plus, as you say, it's painted so should last for quite a while. Thank you for watching and commenting Ann

Great review Ralph, do be honest the negatives are minimal against the positives, hmmm food for thought, i must admit when i gave gitzo mountaineer a £1000.00 they only gave me a penny change LOL, but seriously thats a very nice tripod, oh and loved the black and white image of the building that was just awesome

Glad you liked the review Jim. Yes, the Gitzo is a beautiful bit of kit but perhaps out of reach for a lot of people, especially at the moment when a lot of people are having to watch the spending a bit more. Of course, if Gitzo would like me to do a review🤣. Thank you for watching and commenting

@@RalphGoldsmith nice video and a good looking tripod. Not sure how well it would perform with a heavy camera/telelens combo. The lock mechanism on the ball head looks a bit iffy.
@RalphGoldsmith
@RalphGoldsmith 2 жыл бұрын
@@andywesselsphotographyart Fair point Andy. I just did a quick test at home with the D810 and Tamron 150-600, Ball head is fine and the tripod holds it well. You'd want to be careful how far you extended the centre column though, which would be true with any heavy camera / lens setup. Thank you for watching and commenting

Hi Ralph, great video, as you always do. Have you come up with a way of stopping sand get in to the legs mechanisms and how to clean then if sand does get in, I got swamped last week whilst on the beach in Scarborough, it’s taken hours to clean and wash the crap out. I did have a heart in the mouth when taking off the top plastic cap because each time you remove this cap it felt like it was breaking have used. WD-40 washed it first result in water and eight toothbrush and then use some Vaseline. Obviously with Vasoline more crap will stick in the future but it may prevent it from going inside. I’m sure. Do you have any tips at all if you come across any good ideas thank you. Keep up the good work, Chris Bull

Glad you enjoyed it Chris. I've tried using plastic bags over the legs but it's just too fiddly. A good soak in very warm water clears most of it but I find the threaded bits the worst. A bit of degreaser and a stiff brush seems to work best on them. I would avoid the vaseline. if some lubricant is needed on the threads I use a (tiny amount) of silicone grease. Hello Ralph, excellent review! Thank you I am in the market for a horizontal tripod. I am between this K&F T254A8 or the K&F T254A7. Have you seen the T254A7? Which do you think would be better? Really would appreciate your suggestion
@RalphGoldsmith
@RalphGoldsmith Жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful. I haven't personally seen the T254A7. I think it had lever locks on the legs and may be a little bit shorter? Personally I prefer twist leg locks. I'm actually not even sure if the T254A7 is still available? Thank you for watching and commenting

Nicely done particularly the breakwater and B&W images. I'm curious who would would ask K&F for such a tripod. The amount of times you would need the height would be seldom at best. Stability in the wind, pardon the pun, looks "shaky." Personally, I've done away with movable center leg tripod completely.

Good question Gary. I wouldn't see a lot of use for the full height for landscape photography. I can see where it might be useful for some creative angles for video though. Thank you for watching and commenting

The Winston is a great tripod but substantially more expensive than this. I do think it's good that there are some decent options for people who need to be more careful about what they spend. Thank you for watching and commenting
