@@Mike.Jester Yep, I just wanted to state that out. HP for the big trucks is more like an advertisement thing. Like "Wow, 700 HP!" But in reality it makes no real difference for pulling stuff when the other truck has 620 HP. Mercedes trucks are state of the art... it doesn't matter if it's about offroad or onroad... the most stunning imo. are the Arocs 4663 AS 8x8 and the Zetros 3643 AS 6x6. When it comes to the rugged trucks only MAN is on that level.

The volvo won to be honest it was the only truck that started struggling when reaching the top of the hill while scania and marcedes had to use higher gears halfway to the top which helped them win

Scania took off with the easiest struggle if you watch carefully how they start the benz almost came off the ground the Volvo had to give itself a pep talk before it got going Scania literally just stood up and walked off!

The tested Mercedes has only 440HP and still qas the quickest. Mercedes also has the best offroad trucks... Arocs 4663 for example. Torque is more important than HP.

@@sonatine3266 Exactly. Torque is more important than horsepower. Even with the same amount of horsepower, Volvo and Scania produce more torque than all of their competitors. The 630hp engine that Mercedes use for the truck you mentioned, produce less torque than the engine in a Scania R580. 3000Nm vs 3050Nm. The 580hp V8 that Mercedes use produce the same amount of torque as the new Volvo D13K500 engine. So, an engine that produce 80 less horsepower, has 3L less displacement, 2 cylinders less and uses less fuel still produce the same amount of torque.

@@tntfreddan3138 The new Mercedes Actros just won the 2022 Eurotrucks test against Volvo and Scania. ;) And then again the whole system, transmission, suspension, assistant systems etc. make a truck and not only power - and Mercedes simply has the most advanced allround-package there (especially when it comes to assistant-systems... Volvo f.e. is still using outdated software and Scania doesn't even offer all the assistance-systems you can get at Volvo and Mercedes). When it comes to big offroad trucks, Mercedes and MAN are the best you can buy. It's a fact that the current Mercedes-Benz Arocs 4663 AS 8x8 is the most capable truck of it's kind. And if you take a look at the military branche, the Rheinmetall HX3 10x10 and 8x8 trucks are the state-of-the-art right now, which are based on MAN trucks. So yeah... Mercedes (and MAN in the military branche) still produce the best trucks for various needs. Sure, Volvo and Scania got good engines and Volvo built the best road truck for several years, but since 2019 the new Actros easily offers the best allround package. And Mercedes expressly said a long time ago that they don't want to play this HP game, since it makes no sense for road trucks at a certain point. There are loading limits and speed limits for trucks in Europe and a 625HP OM473 with 3000Nm has simply no disadvantages to a engine with 50-100Nm more. It makes literally no difference with all the electronic helpers and intelligent injection, ISG etc.

​@@sonatine3266 I know that there are loading limits, I'm a truck driver myself. I drive a Scania, myself. And it makes sense for Volvo and Scania to compete in power because we pull much heavier loads and quite often in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees. A few years ago, most lumber trucks were 6x4 Volvos or Scanias, pulling 4-axle full trailers. Today, with increased weight limits for Class 4 roads, we've started to see more and more 8x4s pulling 5-axle trailers. Scania and Volvo are the only ones who see to the needs of the Swedish market. A 530hp Daf with 2600Nm of torque, or a 570hp Iveco with 2500Nm of torque won't cut it. To pull those 74 tons, I'd want at least 650hp. And to get that, you get either an older MAN with the V8, a Volvo or a Scania.
