Love to see someone else warming up for the vice wrestling Olympics . And that's the quickest way by far to strip rust off a vise, should be an easy sell such a good size !!

I say that is a monster, those jaws are almost as big as your hands. I say it was glad watching that brown disappear. The clear coat looks better than any crazy paint job you could have done.

At first I thought all that patina was some red primer. What a vise! I have the 104 and 103 and used to want a 106 until I saw you manhandling it around the bench, not anymore! For sure it would end up on my foot! Great video brother and it came out really nice with just the clear coat.

Thanks David! The guy I bought it off of coated it with that rust ender primer. I usually don't like buying painted vises cause you don't know what's under it.

Excellent vise. I definitely cheered when that brown came off. Looks so much nicer now. That was an unpleasant find with the weld but fortunately it’s done well. Should be a rock sold beast!

Great job on that beast. Massive vice and looks so much better in raw steel than that horrible brown. I’m sure it will sell in a heartbeat, but if it doesn’t, you could always advertise it as a boat mooring. 😄

You Tube Pro 🤣 I'm no pro brother. I'm just George. The lacquer works as a good alternative especially when you bring it down to bare metal. I have a high carbon steel knife I restored years ago coated in it hasn't rusted yet.

Looks like my vise, it has an eleven inch opening. Dad got it 50 vears ago on the side of the road and said it needed a pin to get it to work. Being working like a champ ever since, here in Australia.

Nice find Gorge that thing is a beast 135 pounds definitely want that anchored down good my little 5 pound maybe 8 not sure but I know it’s not 10 pound vice is clamped to my table and it fell off and hit my foot and it sounded like I was speaking in tongues lol going to be bolting it down soon

I have Canadian version RAE 106 which I just got. Other than RAE vs. Reed on the casting its identical.

up in canada i have 2 of these, but they dont say REED, they are RAE. I suspect they bought the parts from reed and put their own letters on it. they are identical to this. The problem is that both of mine are BROKEN and ABUSED-- one has a totally missing chin, and one had a severed and re-brazed dynamic jaw. beggers can't be choosers I guess because to say these are rare in canada is a complete understatement.

Well Damn man drive on down to the states and pick this one up. LOL. Seriously that could be the case they are very similar to a Yost as well and I was worried I'd find a crack or bondo on this one. Cool you got 2 and when they are rare you just have to be happy with what ya got.

Does not look like the nut was ever cracked as one of the commenters stated unless there is something you did not show us? The nut looks fine and I could see no evidence of a drilled pin hole which is what most of these had from the factory. An oddball for sure but very interesting. You did it a great service by removing that awful brown primer......looks fantastic now!

Thank You, Yes there isn't any evidence for a pin hole. The nut seems fine as well. But why the weld? Quite strange indeed.

@@Uwannawatch the weld is necessary to prevent the nut from backing out. No need to ever remove the nut for most vises……we just remove them most times to clean everything out but again it’s not necessary. It’s an anomaly for sure but a cool one just the same!
