So here's my sadness and joy all wrapped up together. Sad that more people don't seem to have the pleasure of sharing in this incredible composition and execution. Joy at having found something akin to hidden treasure. I shake my head and only hope that Ian Thornley has a sense (despite the numbers) of what a gift his music is.

I'm always shocked when I meet a rock fan who hasn't heard of Big Wreck. Everyone I introduce to Big Wreck automatically becomes fans.

Cunningham's law says the fastest way to get an answer about something on the internet isn't to ask the question, but to post a wrong answer. SO... here's what I think their trying so say: This is a song about record labels signing artists to a label and then not promoting them or helping to pay for their touring outside of Canada. Lyrics like "Their want to ink a deal", "A world of status", "They said all aboard", "So while they satisfy their want You're signing on the dotted line". Then the repeating refrain that they're all alone and their manager or record company or whatever... is nowhere to be found. Leaving them wondering "what the hell am I doing here?". Oddly, when I first heard this track I thought they were talking about death, afterlife, or something along those lines. The 'higher I go there are more rules to follow' line is intriguing. Maybe this is all about marriage and divorce? Not sure. Would love to hear Ian comment on what he was going after, but ain't holding my breath as he doesn't seem to give a ton of interviews.

I think you're on to something. He's definitely written (and spoken in interviews) about the pitfalls of chasing a certain kind of gratification out of the music industry. Personally I'm happy that he seems to have become comfortable with his M.O. which has him just chasing music because he can't help himself.

I played this song a lot when the small company I had worked for for 20 years was sold to a much larger and more corporate firm. The senior guys were presented the opportunity to bonus if we signed non-compete agreements which we all eventually did. Then it was the emotional journey of working for a corporate giant and everything that entailed. As some of my coworkers began to leave for other companies, the refrain I'm still here hit home. Great tune.

Whoever designed their cover art for this album was a fan of Bioshock. Or at least the aesthetics and font.

It's and artistic and architechtural style called Art Deco. Was around everywhere in the 1920's. (Think Empire State Building and Rockefeller complex in NY)

Thought the same. And Paulo's right it's Deco, but as with Bioshock, it's more like Deco-Decay. Deco after the apocalypse or something like that.
