Henk is the only singer who never used feedback earpiece in this show even for this song where he attempted to distort his voice for the first time during his career as a singer (just for Floor). The idea that he is autotuned seems like an insult. If at all, it is post production audio tweeking. During the season you can pick up mistakes, pitchiness in some songs because it is live performance. Not for Henk or Floor tho. :)

This version is better than the Disturbed version in my opinion. Henk's voice are simply more full of expression and passion. But Henk is not afraid of doing new techniques with his voice - and that's because of Floor's impact on him and the show in general. Floor and Henk are close friends now, and I hope she is using him on her solo album - they are great together, which became obvious during the 9 extra shows. Henk is doing duet with Floor on an old ReVamp song also (besides Phantom....) and he is enjoying himself max - and enjoying his duets with Floor, which is quite understandable, while they are really phenomenal together.

All of the songs recorded live at the show were studio-mixed for a simultatanious charts, Itunes, Spotify release together with the airing of the episodes of Beste Zangers. So on tv you're hearing the studio-mixed recordings taken from the live performances with some of the reaction sounds mixed in. I think there was about 4 or 5 months between the sessions on Ibiza and the airing of the actual show. That may explain a few things perhaps ;-)

I don't think the technical producers for Beste Zangers were prepared for how powerful Floor and Henk's voices were. You can hear improvements to the recording quality in later episodes. Also, Henk went on Tour with Floor after this. They did Phantom there too. Much of the house band for Beste Zangers were the backing band. While there are no high quality recordings of those shows that I know of, you can hear them both go for it more there with a more prepared technical situation.

Floor still has one concert left to do in the series, which has been postponed quite a few times now due to our good friend Coronavirus. I have tickets for that show and am eagerly waiting for it to finally happen. There was a crowdfunding campaign done by Floor to have those shows (it's been split into 2 shows with half the audience each because of Covid) professionally recorded for everyone who can't be there. If I recall all the goals were funded so there should be some high quality footage of Floor and Henk doing their thing in the near future, hopefully.

@@CharlieCalottaReacts You don't have to tell me what The Best Singer is for a TV show. There is only one thing you forget. The show is small-scale and therefore not comparable to a concert. There is no audience either. The only people present are the other artists and at a concert you always have an audience and it is much bigger. A singing voice can also be affected by weather conditions or if an artist is nervous or jittery during a live performance, which makes the voice sound different. What I do know is that no autotune was used here.

This is an excellent performance. He did this classic in "Disturbed's style". So notice how red (😠) his head turned when he used the "distortion" (which is an absolute no no to the "serious" opera singer). As a Henk's long time fan girl Floor asked politely him to do it and also coached him. Anyway i really feared that his head will explode at any time. Haha, fortunately not and we had a wonderful and emotional experience. ⛄👍

I'd be interested to hear from those who claim to be able to hear autotune, what exactly it is that you're hearing? Is it something in the phase domain? Or, as I've thought, is it that, if one pitch corrects the fundamental, the harmonics will get progressively more wrong as the harmonic order increases? (ie, a 2% correction at F1 becomes 4% at F2, 8% at F3, 16% at F4, etc.) Then, when you consider the non-linerarity of human hearing, such that we are more sensitive to harmonic errors if they are of higher or odd order... What is autotune doing, in what ways and in which domain, (frequency, time, phase) such that a trained listener can consistently distinguish autotune from other signal processing? I often hear analysts call "autotune!"... But they never say why and how. Be the first on KZbin to actually break this down... If anyone can do it, you can. (For what it's worth, I was a Sonar Technician, so I tend to think about sound in terms of its structure and behavior... Which are really weird.)

But it is a totally different performance and totally different circumstances. He might not hear the band properly, the crowd noices and their sing-a-long might also get him a little off. His voice - or he himself - might be tired. Not concentrating 100 %. Or... and recorded via phone mics, which is not an ideal thing either. In Beste zangers the performance was recorded in quite an intimate and controllable situation. He probably did hear the band - and get the tune - much easier without earbuds, than he does in the larger crowd situations. The overall noise might make it even difficult to hear his own voice properly sometimes in these mass concert situations (not in real concert halls and with electronic instruments). And I am not denying there is some (a lot) post-production made. Definitely there is. And maybe some fine tuning done to his pitch also. But I am not hearing ”too much autotuning” at all. Sorry.

I did hear the post production auto tune on Disturbeds Conan performance which he explicitly did not want. But when I saw Disturbed live I assure you there was no autotune. Fantastic performance as is this one. Mr. Poort has YEARS of experience and if there was auto tune he certainly didn't need it.

@@CharlieCalottaReacts I know what autotune is. I've worked with it when it just "came out" (1997) when I made house music (here known as hardcore). Auto-Tune can correct a singer's "bad notes" and "crappy" pitch. Beste Zangers is touched up for broadcasting and for the album releases. You also can't compare a crappy phone recording with this. Also the link you gave is a gig with Floor Jansen were he's doing multiple songs instead of just 1 song (this is also noticeable in the voice). Also De Beste zangers is aired for many years and still is an ongoing show. If you listen to the years before and even after you definitely hear singers sing bad notes and have wavering pitches. They stated everything is live without autotune, but yes they do some audio edit. But as I just said you can hear people "mess up" some songs(little faults) , they don't correct that.. So why would they do that with Henk Poort? Edit: if you compared it with the Disturbed version, you can clearly hear the massive autotuning on the "Disturbed version". But not on the "Henk Poort version".

He IS doing Disturbed's version, complete with the awful tuning. But less so, it's not too bad. And to people who are SO SURE it is not tuned...learn to listen, as Charlie says at the end of all these. Because if you cannot hear it, then the industry has already managed to make this the norm to consumer's ears. There's almost none of these shows that don't use it in post, at least. From what I understand, both Draiman and Poort didn't want it on there. You can always claim that, I guess. But they have no say in that, no reason to not believe them.

I generally don't really like Henk Poort in these songs. In musicals (which he usually does) his voice really shines, cause it's so expressive. But when he's singing different songs, the vibrato that usually adds to his expression, comes through much clearer. It's a very prominent vibrato. From what I can hear, it spans more than an octave, and I just don't think it sounds good in this setting. And he does it all the time...
