This video is an effort to change your mind. I recently asked on a KZbin Community Post what the most boring car from the last 50 years was, and I got a lot of answers! If you’ve read the title of this video you already know what car won, but here’s just a few interesting things from the data. Of all the marques, there were more votes for Toyota than all the others, but Nissan, Volkswagen, Vauxhall/Opel and Ford all featured as makers of the most boring cars. But now, here’s a rundown of the top 5 cars you chose as the most boring. At number 5, the car I would have expected to win, is the Toyota Prius, Toyota features heavily in this countdown as at number 4 is a car that was for many years the number 1 selling car in America, the Toyota Camry, at number 3 is one I actually didn’t expect, especially as it’s one of my favourite cars, but apparently it’s ubiquity and blandness single it out, the Volkswagen Golf, and the Jetta wasn’t far behind it at number 7. At number 2, the follow-up to the Vauxhall Cavalier, but apparently the height of bland is the Vauxhall/Opel Vectra, but at number 1 and the subject of this video which WILL change your mind, is the fascinating, wonderful Toyota Corolla!

The 1984 Corolla GT Hatchback in New Zealand was far from boring. Benefiting from being Chris Amon tuned, with firm suspension that planted it on the road, these cars felt an almost entirely different vehicle from their American counterparts. Superb handling, a full leather interior, an understated racing trim and the flat staccato of the twin-cam engine made these vehicles a pleasure to drive. And a 225km/hr true top speed.

I still fondly remember my father's second hand dark blue 1979 Toyota Corolla E70 which he bought in 1986. At the time I named it Fred. I was a very young kid so I'd often go to bed early, before he got home from work. I remember being allowed to stay up the day he was bringing home his new car. I was so excited! I remember him turning up after work with it. It was dark outside so he made me oggle at the car from the front room window, but i couldn't wait to see it during the day. I loved that car. My dad sold it in 1990 and records show that it made it to 1993. RIP Fred.

Too much badge engineered trash from Opel and particularly Daewoo wearing a Holden badge since the mid-90s (was there ever a worse car for reliability in the Australian heat then the Opel Corsa (Holden Barina)). More importantly ... no Holden SUVs of any quality, taxis moved from the Commodore to the Camry Hybrid, and Bogan boat/horse/caravan towers moved from the Commodore to a much more capable HiLux/Ford Ranger. Pity about the loss of the 6.2L V8 Commodore though, which sold in fairly big numbers to a dedicated fan base .... great car for 2020 with petrol dirt cheap at about $A1 per litre.

In less than a year it’s had 17,000 kilometres put on it and has given me no issue. Everyone calls it boring, but I could care less. It’s a peppy little car and I kid you not I got 800 kilometres out of a single tank of gas when I was highway driving one weekend. As a mechanic I can also tell you the one car that came in my shop that usually never had anything wrong with it and just required some basic maintenance was the Corolla. Worked at #1 brake caliper factory in the world for a year. Toyota constantly sent inspectors almost monthly to inspect every product lline. No other company did it as frequently. Also, Toyota uses American made parts in their cars. Its a perfect marriage of American parts and Japanese engineering. For these reasons. I purchased a 2012 Toyota Corolla brand new and have driven it 185k thru 3 military duty stations. It just now had its first hiccup. A cylinder 1 misfire due to spark plug failing. Never had anything else except oil change and filter change. Toyota as a brand and the Corolla are top notch IMO. We treat our Corolla like she's a member of the family. It's beyond reliable

Not boring> The last rear wheel drive Truenos ad Levins fetch stupid money as some of the best sport chassis of all time and have new lives racing or rallying. 1980 and 1984 cars had outstanding handling; the 84 car was a revolution and had the input of Chris Amon in suspension. And yes, they were indestructible. The engines - the 4AGE - created its own legend. Here in New Zealand these days we get many used Japanese doestic models. The Blade version of the corolla hatch comes with up to a 3.5l V6 in the Blade master. Replace the soft suspension for fun

The "boring" Corolla is actually upscale compared to the most popular Toyota in Vietnam, where I live. The lowest model is the Vios (known elsewhere as the Yaris sedan), then the Corolla as a "more luxurious" alternative, and the Camry as the top of the branch. Honestly, sometimes I think the Corolla/Camry family looks nice - especially after the facelift (and involvement in NASCAR with the new Camry).

In the Philippines, the Corolla Altis was like a smaller version of the Camry; premium beige leather interior with faux wood trim and piano black tinted mirrors. I noticed that Corollas in the U.S. have very basic interiors, reminiscent to the more cheaper Vios. I was in a friend's 2013 Camry SE here in New Jersey, and the interior was like it was meant for the sub-compact Vios. The only redeeming extras I noticed were the driver-side power seat adjustment and LCD infotainment system. I realized that U.S. Corollas and Camrys have very utilitarian interiors as if they were Vios/Yaris. I've always viewed the Corolla and Camry as upscale sedans that sit above the sub-compact economy car Vios and Yaris. So the Corolla is like the Vios for the U.S. Philippines: (converted into U.S. dollars) Sizes feel like: Full-size - Camry $40k Mid-size - Corolla $20k Compact - Vios $14k Sub-compact - Wigo $11k U.S. Full-size - Avalon $35k Mid-size - Camry $22k Compact - Corolla $19k Sub-compact - Yaris IA $16k

My grandfather had a '78 corolla. My dad had a' 86 corolla. I had a '93 corolla, along with a starlet glanza. To be honest, corolla is not boring. But it started to go downhill when it began that' 98 model with the mockup BMW angel eyes head lamps.

My old man had a 1997 corolla he used to commute to work. He hauled a moose (yes the animal), firewood, and gravel with it. He worked that car as hard as his Ford F 150. That corolla lasted 550K kilometers and the only parts replaced were brakes, struts and tires. His Ford made it 360K and went through two transmissions. The only reason the corolla was retired was due to the large hole in the trunk/boot which impeded my fathers ability to get firewood. Lol

Well done !! We had 3,,,, An '84 4 door bought in '90. Great little car. It needed struts after a year so like an idiot, i gave up on it and bought something else. Probably the worst car decision of my life. A '90 4 door bought around the same time, fleet return and like new. We had an '85 Camaro which was great but with a second child on the way, the missus wanted a 4 door. We had it for nearly 15 years, only repair out of the usual was the starter which failed twice, not cheap but not bad. A '13 4 door bought in '17. My car then had blown up so i bought the best thing i could find for the money,,,,not great. High mileage, struts were shot (unholy hell unleashed at a Toyota Dealership) and it got hit and ran so hard after a year the ds fr dr was almost bent in half. Fixed ok but the trans started making noise. I traded it in this last summer for a car for The Missus and i drive her car, both Civics, 05 and 17. The '05 doesn't even have 90k on it yet and as a coupe, looks great. Lease return '08. I love this car. '17, another lease return, under 20k and like new. 4 door. She loves it. I don't miss the Corolla.

Oh, I had a 1990 Corolla, a 2000 Camry, and now a 2014 Prius C. I had fun with the corolla, being a light weight body, 100 Hp 4AFE engine.... the chassis had about over 200,000 miles before the interior, started to die and on top of that, it had gone though an engine and transmission swap.... the only thing left was the K&N filter that I bought back when it had 100,000 miles on it..... now I currently drive a Honda lol

I just bought a 2006 Corolla Ascent with 44k on the clock! It looks like it rolled out of the factory, rather than being 16 years old. Mind you, I paid about three times the going rate for an 06 Corolla. I also I discovered that I could only insure it for a fraction of what I paid. Still I expect it will last for many years with regular services.

I grew up in a corolla. My parents was all Toyota until they got a ford and had that for the next couple of cars before going back to Toyota. So about four Toyota Corollas that I remember. if it wasn't for the terrible stying back in the 90s I'd get that as my first car. instead it was.. a toyota mr2 mk2. more fun as well. ;) Now me and my spouse have a Toyota Avensis and a Nissan Leaf.

Crown, Corolla, Corona, Carina, Tercel. All "crowns". The first Corolla produced outside Japan was in their now-defunct South Melbourne factory. The 1979 Australian model line-up included the T18, advertised as "the macho machine", but was quickly publicly dubbed "the marshmallow machine" due to its less-than-inspiring performance. Along with the Nova, Holden also released a rebadged Camry as the Holden Apollo. Toyota released a rebadged VN series Commodore as the Toyota Lexcen- named after the designer of the winged-keel yacht that won the America's Cup in 1983.

"Malaking katawan" is Tagalog for "big body". Where I live in Mindanao, we would say "Dako nga lawas" in Cebuano. Every taxi I've ever seen in the Philippines is a Toyota. Most of them are the slightly smaller 1.5 liter Toyota Vios, though Toyota also sells the Corolla Altis which is larger with a larger engine. The Vios sedan is by far the top selling passenger car here, perhaps largely due to it being almost every taxi! People here also love the Hilux Dual Cab 4x4 pickup. I'm Australian, and I owned a 1978 Corolla Coupe, mustard yellow with a black stripe. It was my first brand new car! It looked OK. I had actually wanted a Corolla Liftback, but the dealer didn't have any. A couple of years later, I traded it in on a Daihatsu Charade hatchback. I owned two of those, and of course there was an association between Daihatsu and Toyota. My late wife in Australia also owned a 2003 Toyota Prius. All of those were very reliable cars.
