This slightly shady lamp (exposed live connections on the LED holders) was just made for fun out of random things from eBay.
It was also an opportunity to answer more of the questions asked by Patreons.
This was also shamelessly a "therapy" project for me while I get over a bug that I picked up while visiting Glasgow. (I'm feeling a lot better now.)
I mentioned Steve Summers' struggle with workshop subsidence. Here's a video about that:-
• My Shop is FALLING DOW...
And his gofundme to help towards the repair costs:-
www.gofundme.c...
Keeping in mind that this LED lamp is not quite safety compliant (not suitable for a first project or around kids) you can get the parts for it on eBay using the following search links:-
The lamp kit that got repurposed:-
www.ebay.com/s...
Guide price around $1.50.
The set of pre-terminated crimp connectors:-
www.ebay.com/s...
Guide price around $4 for a set of 50.
5mm flickering effect LEDs:-
www.ebay.com/s...
Guide price around $7 for a pack of 100.
5mm diffused LEDs:-
www.ebay.com/s...
Guide price around $2 for a pack of 100.
Remember that the flickering LED is in parallel with the matching LED in the base, so the technology (forward voltage) will have to be the same. Blue, white, green are 3V and yellow and red are 2V.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
www.bigclive.co...
This also keeps the channel independent of KZbin's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Totally agree with getting a job somewhere to learn skills! One of my many hobbies was cake decorating. Learned basics from my mom and grandma. :) People started asking me to make cakes for them and I would go to this little family owned bakery that also sold decorating supplies and the owner taught decorating classes. One time I went in and asked if they needed some part time help. I sent some pics of cakes I'd made and she offered me a job. I worked there for about a year and learned a TON about cake art. Also... oddly enough, my experience in carpentry helped a lot... you'd be surprised how much in common woodworking, welding, and cake decorating has in common. 😄

Must be the third year now that I have watched this video. I am getting old, having passed my 71st birthday last May, and it seems that the mind that was so very sharp for so many years now has began to forget things, for example I had forgotten that I saw this one till I went to comment and found that I had commented a couple times before. but I did want to note that the glow of the blue lights hold a special magic for me. The first house I ever saw with Christmas Lights was a home just north of Thunder Hawk South Dakota. When we passed it, my mom would comment that her old teacher lived there. Now we didn't have power in our farm house so seeing lights around the roofline of a modern ranch home (in the 1950's) was amazing, and that glow that the lights produced was just amazing to my young mind, so much so that I have remembered it to this very day. My home in town, a 1950's ranch home is decorated for Christmas with blue LED lights that give that wonderful magical glow that I love so very much. It is lonely now at Christmas, my wife passed on 2 years ago, the year of dying in our family, I lost both my sisters, my favorite brother-in-law and at long last my lovely wife of 51 years and 4 days.

To the person asking about 'wokeness' being a problem in trades. The only problem I have encountered is anti-woke people starting interpersonal problems with other employees. Anyone can be trained to do the job and do it well, especially trade jobs. Their 'wokeness' or being politically correct doesnt affect their work at all. I have found that firing the problem people and maintaining a group of people that can all work together respectfully if far more productive than making sure I only hire people that can tolerate a caustic work environment. As ex-Army, none of that behavior bothers me personally, but if I have customers walking through, I know that they can walk off and talk to someone and I dont have to direct someone to "keep her away from Plantation Dave, he might say something that loses me this contract". To Clive, well deflected and brought to a relevant point.

Speaking of old electronics, Zenith and Sharp used to make some truely indestructible stuff. I used to try and play peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in our old top-loader VCR and other than needing a fresh set of belts afterwards, it kept on trucking. My aunt still has the microwave my parents bought when I was born, which would make it close to 40 years old, and use it regularly. Impressive lifespan from a single magnetron.

I got another curious question, Clive changed a resistor. What would happen if i change the 10 ohm resistor to a smaller value? Is it bad for the LEDS? @8:21 - Fun Fact - When I was a toddler, I was fascinated by power outlets and would often try to stick things, including electrically conductive things, into power points. My dad used to try to dissuade me by telling me that evil "Imps' (amps?) lived in there and would get me . Didn't help. So one day he hooked a wire to the coil of his car and got me to "helpfully" hold onto it while he turned the engine over. 45 years later, I still drink free beer on my old man's tab on that guilt trip. Never looked at a power outlet the same way though.

About the solar panels thing in Australia: Solar panels actually tend to loose a lot of their efficiency when they get hot (which is why in The Netherlands some companies are now trying to build solar panels with water running through them to cool the panels, and in return have the water running through a heat exchange system to heat water inside your home.) Also, the monumental buildings that can not have solar panels or solar collectors for hot water installed, are subject of some kind of the same research from companies trying to come up with failsafe systems in which the roof tiles are equipped with channels that have water running through them so, as the tiles heat up in summer, they heat the water inside the roof tiles. (My parents have solar panels and this year the DC/AC converter might fail or due to it's decreasing inefficiency be up for renewal, which will be interesting to see what that will do for the price compared to the amount of energy we saved over the years since 2012). Biggest drawback of huge amounts of solar panels: the local mains grid (in The Netherlands this problem might be bigger) can become unstable, because all the solar panel installations might be trying to deliver all the unused energy back in such a big amount that safety systems are concerned the voltage is to high and shut off the neighbourhood ring, or, in case a big cloud blocks the sun this can cause such a huge voltage drop that the same systems might think they are signalling a short circuit in the grid and shut off the neighbourhood ring in the same way. The unfortunate thing of solar panels with a DC/AC converter is that the converter listens in on the mains grid frequency and synchronizes itself with it and then starts running slightly a-synchronous in order for it to be able to push the unused energy back in the grid. When the mains grid suffers a failure somewhere due to a malfunction of whatever sort and is shut off, the converter shuts off immediately as well, in order to stop engineers working in the neighbourhood substation from getting shocked from either your home connection or even the primary side of the transformer where usually the high voltage goes in. So, if the sun is shining fiercely during a power outage? You have no power even though you might have an excess of it being generated at the DC side of the converter. Interesting feature of the converter: it can sense short circuits in the mains grid from kilometers away (it measures voltage constantly). When a big part around Rotterdam came to be without power, the massive short circuit that preceeded it (more than 100 kilometers of powerlines and several substations away) caused the converter to send an email that it had detected a voltage and frequency drop (when voltage and/or frequency becomes to low for to long a period of time, it can also switch off). I, for one have been incredibly fascinated knowing a part of my city or a different city connected to the same substation going off-grid temporarily causing a dip in the grid in the part of my city where I live.

You mention the camera cutting the video at a fixed file size. Is the file size around 4GB? If so, this is likely to make sure the file will still work with an SD card that came formatted with a FAT32 filesystem. It's a system that dates back to way back when hard drives weren't that big, let alone file sizes. It's still commonly used because Macs only have read-only support for NTFS. Perhaps, if you reformat it, it'll remove the limitation.

The camera cutting out at ~30 Minutes is definitely because of file size. A lot of memory cards, SD Cards etc., used to use the FAT file system. In fact, a lot of them even today still use FAT. FAT had a file size limit of 4GB. So camera software was just designed to limit their file sizes to 4GB to make sure the FAT limitation wouldn't be a problem. And manufacturers are lazy and never updated their software. Now that exFAT is the standard the 4GB limit is gone, but the software is slow to adapt.

I was born in 1989 and myself and most people close to my age were circumcised as a standard in the United States. They stopped doing it by default around 94-95, i think.

Yeah but unfortunately its still being done. :( It does alot more harm than people realize. A great deal of men are harmed badly but since its so taboo for men to talk of such things, you don't hear about it unless you've been one of the unlucky ones and had to learn the hard way.

"Remove antivirus" is most likely a bad translation of the generic disable your antivirus so the install will function, then re-enable.

I learned electronics by reading electronics magazines. These days it helps to try a few electronic project websites and see if one clicks with you.

I was told the non camcorder recording being limited to roughly half an hour was down to WTO tariff codes. My camcorder records in roughly 10 minute blocks of files, but will keep going laying down 1 file after another such that they can be put together with no drops up to a maximum of the SD card it will take (64GB) or roughly 6 hours of continuous video.

Off topic but fairly recently I bought a pair of Xuron wire cutters on your kind of recommendation. I just ordered a bundle of stuff from Amazon, mainly for some soldering bits but amongst which was a pair of wire cutters which were identical to the Xuron pair, right down to the packaging, except for being branded Xupcn. I wondered if they were fakes or something so I tried to visit the site URL on the packaging xupcn.com but it redirected to your KZbin channel. What gives?

Those are XH series connectors, manufactured by JST. You order them by looking up "JST XH" and if you look at Clive's supply link you'll see it goes to a eBay search link for "50 JST XH 2.5 with Wires". JST is a giant company that makes a very wide range of connector products. www.jst.com/home8.html
