Here's a *solution to separate the battery from the casing sticky tape* : take a length of waxed tooth floss, long enough to hold tightly and pass behind the battery. Then use it like a saw pulling back and forth until you cut through the double sided tape, and the battery falls out/can be easily pulled off. No penetration, sharp objects or damage!

I can confirm that floss/string work wonderfully for removing double sided tape. That's how I moved my dashcam from my old car to my current one. The dashcam manufacturers even tend to include a foot or so of string in the box for exactly that purpose.

Clive! This light is clearly manufactured for people who want general illumination while still walking into things. It's the ultimate in niche marketing. Also because the makers of this fine product know their target niche market so well, they understand that these folks like surprizes. THEREFORE these people will simply LOVE the fact that the instructions bear no resemblance to the actual product.

My favourite pile of crap head torch was a model, that we used to sell in our hobby shop. Not only it hadn't any protection for cell itself, but because protection was inside of provided charging lead, you cannot charge it and not destroy it by any other, generic charging lead. It needed 3,7 V charging voltage, and we never had spare leads for customers, that lost theyr provided one. We got rid of them when couple people returned these torches with swolen battery packs...

I got a $10 Tractfire LED headlamp. Very generic, with a very bright center spot and a good amount of area illumination, and runs on dual 18650 batteries. The batteries it came with were junk, so I got some real 3,200mAh EBL 18650's, and I can use that thing for a hell of a long time. Its even adjustable vertically. For the price, its a great headlamp, especially since I'm an overnight trucker. Its about 2 years old now. Its even taken a couple hits when I've fallen backwards on ice and the battery pack absorbed most of the impact like a helmet. I had a Bulbhead headlamp before that and it only lasted a few weeks on the job (and it almost looks like the one shown here, with an adjustable one)

Red LED mode might be useful for nighttime map reading (for those of you under 30 years old, we used to have actual printed maps that you actually had to look at so you knew how to get somewhere, essentially a printed copy of Google Maps but with more accuracy) but it's pointless because you can't even get the light to shine in your lap without some serious contortions of the spinal column!

does bringing it towards your nose a little more instead of flat in the middle of your head not help with the beam angle?

You could sew a couple of loops on the front of your jacket. Or put it on backpack webbing.

Great for dealing with wasps in a loft as wasps cant see red so you're somewhat safer. Go with the white light and you'll end up with them attacking you.

I wonder how it would perform as a belt buckle torch instead.

It might work as a cycle light. In fact, that may well be what it was originally designed for.

Where do you guys look for the alphanumeric codes on chips? I have some SMD mosfets I got from digikey, but don't remember the part number (and don't have access to the order history). The markings don't seem to show up anywhere online

Hey big Clive, Maybe, if you felt like it was worth it, make a necklace where it points down in front of you at the table? I don't know if the things worth it? just a thought. *EDITED. just finished watching video. If you tear the lithium battery just a little, could you sell it with aluminum foil tape or any kind of tape?

Google "SHL-1855 headlamp". It's the best headlamp I have ever owned, using two 18650 it has great battery life, the lamp is pivoting and bright as heck and it doesn't mind rain or snow. And the best thing is that I think it cost me about 5€ without batteries with shipping, as I don't care for cheap useless rechargeable batteries. I've been using it whole winter while taking the dog out and I think I've charged the batteries (NCR18650B) twice. The best thing about it is that when the batteries ran out of juice in middle of the forest on "high" once, the "low" setting lasted for whole 20 minutes, enough to get out from the forest without resorting to crappy cellphone lamp and stumbling around in the dark. One bad thing I can say about the headlamp is that after four months of use it wouldn't turn on again, and after a short inspection it turned out there was a cold solder on the battery compartment which was easy enough to fix. Oh and the beam could be wider if you like that sort of thing, I like it tight and focused as it's been pretty dark and muddy winter here in Finland so it does not bother me.

you could just piece of foam on the top of the light to tilt the light down.

So, I believe your biggest complaint would be solved with... a small bit of foam?

I would appreciate your opinion, I notice when I run devices with multiple batteries be they say sensor activated mini lights, clocks etc when the batteries "die" pretty much every time I put them in charger at slowest setting lets say 3 used in same device one normally shows near or full, 1 or none show an error code but the 1 or 2 that show as low charge within a few minutes show as near half charge if not 3 or 4 fifths charged, I have even put batteries in charger for literally a minute on lowest charge and put them back in device and they last another few weeks/months so I feel they just need jump started rather than charged. Is there a device or trick I can use for this?

I wonder if just removing the lens would make it more useful as a sort of misdirected flood.
