Shephard's pie is made with lamb, whereas cottage pie is made with beef. Basically everybody neglects to use a flavorful enough sauce and the meat itself is frequently under-seasoned and bland. Also, the mashed potatoes on top should be garlic mash. For flavor. Also, cottage cheese is disgusting. I don't know how they (the manufacturers with their food scientists) managed to so thoroughly ruin cheese curds in whey, but they have.
