The last 500 yards of this feature is actually Stepney Green. I lived here with my husband and three sons for 46 years. We saw the gradual decline of the whole of Tower Hamlets area ( which includes Whitechapel) from the late 70s. 😢

I worked 30 years ago on Whitehorse lane in a pine carpenters , it was last of dieing trade in that area. Comprising it were 10 posh yuppies behind high security barriers, 15 odd cockneys left they were perhaps 85 then, rest of it was hoardes upon hoardes of gangs of single young 17 to 30 year old males, the floors full of needles, smell of tobacco smoke bellowing out of each flat block. How an earth can 1 political party change an entire area? From my understanding cockneys earlier were being pushed outside by local authorities. Many wanted to stay it was their home.

Totally true Brickie, I'm originally from Liss (Hampshire) and there is no phucking way I will ever go back due to the Filth, Drugs, Gangs, Knives, Guns and the little wannabee gangstas (You know who I mean) running about armed to their decaying teeth with knives. I found paradise in Scotland, this town where I now live with my family is 99% white, a lovely old fashioned population that actually say 'good morning' to you as you walk the dog, And I'm loving our huge Log Fire in the lounge. England is PHUCKED and they can have it. At least up here its way too cold for the immigrants. Oh BTY two feet of snow due Wednesday 27th March 2024.. This is what keeps the immigrants away !!

My place of work on the opposite side of the road at 11:30. The whole area is nasty, thankfully I only have to work from my office 1 day a week. Predominately Bangladeshi population. Not sure which day you were there but, the side of the road you are walking on is usually filled with grotty market stalls.

Yes changed unrecognisable now ,thank you blair and khan youve done an amazing job of destroying london etc , please everyone vote for Susan Hall and give her a chance to change it back to a London that once was vibrant and safe . I know Susan she is a truly honest and caring woman and will look after everyone for the best ,just getting rid of ulez and khans future road pricing which will affect everyone in london so think before you vote as khan has to Go now for the sake of Great Britain in general. God bless the King

Is that the Brexit and Trump loving far right Susan Hell you're talking about? She will get annihilated come May 2 just as your horrendous blu kip, gammon ragbag Tories will be obliterated come election day. London is multicultural, as is Britain, and no amount of racist wishful thinking will ever change that reality.

I explored these so called no go areas of East London a few years back to see what all the fuss was about. Far less threatening than Moss Side used to be in Manchester (for example), or even some of the large mainly white council estates in my own city of Stoke (try Norton, Abbey Hulton or Bentilee). Probably as dodgy as any other city at night but I found the people to be friendly and not intimidating at all and I was even invited to a school summer fete by some lovely Bangladeshi women. I can only speak as I find.

No, back in the Middle East and Pakistan you’ll find trash everywhere. It’s normal just to dump it anywhere. Different cultures, different habits, different values and ethics, different standards and expectations. What used to differentiate England from the Middle East was beauty, order and structure. worked in this part of london around the 2000's - it wasnt a bad place then, enjoyed the local pub and going for a curry, didnt feel unsafe. looking at it now, i dont think I'd be so happy working around there. that said had a bad experience with kids in the 200s around cable street / shoreditch tube, wasnt the place to be walking with a laptop bag thats for sure.
