Stuff like this really shows how cool of a company Lego is. They seem to have a passion for their work that you don't really see in other toy makers now or really ever. Truly amazing.

dude i have a 2000 piece cargo plane and its small compared to this
@undead.rising7 жыл бұрын
Is that the white cargo plane from about 2-3 years ago? That's only about 1350 pieces (I have it and I love it). This set is just under 4000 pieces, which makes it about 3x the amount. So yes, as a person who has both sets - it dwarfs almost every set I own.

Thanks for the review. Santa bought me this for Christmas. I got keen on this model when I saw it last year. I live in a city that has a coal port, so we literally see these massive machines digging away filling up ships with coal every time we go down to the harbour. So when a Lego version became available I just had to have one. While it does contain a kazillion parts, I didn't find this model took all that long to complete. I did it in 4 nights, probably spending 3-4 hours each night while having a movie or the sport on TV. I wasn't in any particular hurry but could have probably knocked at least one night off the build (as the time i did spend was fairly interrupted). Night 1 did the truck and base + tracks (bags 1-3). Night 2 was the support and lower conveyor (bags 4-5). Night 3 was the main digger assembly (bag 6) And the final night was the motor and bits to pretty the build up (bags 7-8). By far bag 6 was the biggest portion of the build with the most parts....and took the longest. It was also the most difficult as the component becomes quite cumbersome to manoeuvre around as the build progresses. I probably slightly disagree with one thing you said about the difficulty of the build. I would consider it to be one of the more technical builds, just in the point that it has a tonne of gears and parts that need to be set up. While it wouldn't have been too difficult for me to have built when I was in the recommended age range on the box, I would probably say its more of a +16 model than a 12-16. Though having said that I was building large technic sets solo when i was about 9, as my dad was fairly useless at anything mechanical. Things I love about this model are the scale and functionality. Its probably why technic is my favourite brand of Lego as they tend to be things that work and display how they work. And who doesn't love a big Lego model?!?! I also liked that the motor came as part of the set. These days, these items are usually added extras for another $100 or so, so its great Lego didn't gouge more money by selling it separately. Things i wasn't so impressed about was the manual raising and lowering of the digger. It really would have been 50 simple parts more to integrate it with the other gear-sets. So they probably skimped a bit on design here. It was also fairly good value for money, with a LOT of smaller and less interesting sets costing a fair bit more. All in all a great model, and a great talking point when people walk in to see it displayed on the coffee table.

My dear friends!! I do have to say that you left some pretty important feature left out! The lock on the second belt SEEMS a bit functionless but do keep in mind it locks on a Base level, so even when the rotation of the big arm is engaged the second arm stays in place! This makes it possible that the dump truck stays on one place while the unit is grinding along the hillslide.

Of the numbered bags, all the bags with a *6* on them take about about a third (or maybe just slightly more) of the entirety of the set's pieces. For slow builders, this section will take you at least a day. I'm fast, but I like to multi-task and watch a TV show on my laptop at the same time, so I build at the rate of about 200-300 pieces per hour, which I would think is a moderate-fast speed, and got section 6 done in about five hours.

Bought this yesterday from my local shop, took me 16 hours to build it. Fingers feel like they are recovering from burns but it sits proudly above my computer. Tried to use it to destroy my kids lego village as "the bad guy" but it didn't have the power to do much. Did most damage walking over stuff than bucket damage. Get's stuck easily such a shame the motor lets its down with such an incredible and huge build.

Much smaller version of a Bagger 288. But even Lego has engineering limits and capacities. I built a smaller version of the Bagger out of Legos, yet much larger than the kit featured here. Used almost ten thousand pieces, and it even walked the same way as the Bagger does in real life. As a kit, don't see how my version could have been done for less than five hundred though.

My only issues with this set was the lack of radio control and the lack of power I found that unless u are so careful when putting that together it dont work the set really could have done separately driven tracks as well as separately power rotation as the is to much going on for just one motor would happily have paid more if we got the set + 2 recivers of the v2 type one in the top one in to bottom along with 2 battery boxes so that way the tracks have 2 xl motors for direct drive along with a l motor for rotation of super structure Thats one reciver I would keep it like it is with the tracks and that is that it can only track forward and backwards Then the second battery box and reciver will run on chanles 2 and 3 the bucket wheal would have its own motor as would the track belts As for the tracks and uper structure are on 1 and 4 That would make the set possible 150 to 200 pounds more but it would have been so much more beneficial if it came this way instead
