I will add one more controversial statement: if one is bored with technical exercises - it's a big problem. Even technical exercises can be played as if they were music. And in jazz - long term focus on technique is actually a prerequsite to be able to improvise freely...

Do you agree among the greatest and freest thinking musicians..copying is detrimental to who they are at some point? Similar to a child growing up to adulthood in my opinion. I have some of the greatest to tell me play from the heart. Of course based on vocabulary learned determines our language profiencies . Some like Lester Young made up the famous word MF! Creative vs dependent on memorized phrases mixed up while not telling our own stories. Practice intelligently is required in all subjects. Those who dwarf all of us are just geniuses.

Great question! A lot to unpack in here. I guess at early stages of your music learning process (like any language) you have to copy more than you create, so you can learn the vocabulary. Then little by little you can start creating more without the need to copy too much. After that, from what I have seen, it makes sense that if you want to build a name for yourself and develop your own sound, it's probably better if you stop copying others altogether, so you can work on your unique voice. But it's not wrong either to keep copying so you can keep enriching your vocabulary. In the end, I guess it depends on the kind of career you want to develop as a musician.
