i live in northeastern oregon and while there is a skate scene here the skateparks suck and winter is a huge bummer because theres no enclosed places for people to skate. i've only recently started skating after riding scooters for 5-6 years and i've always wondered why someone doesn't open a chill little indoor skatepark with like a mini ramp, some ledges and flatbars, and maybe a small stair set with a down rail. thinking i might fill that market when i have the finances to do so. just create a neat little nook with a skateshop attached with all the essentials. make it more adult centered as well so if the regular skatepark is filled with little kids the locals will have a place to go to get away from it all. a perfect example of this would be riggs skatepark in spokane washington. the guy that owned it was super nice and it created a great place for people to go during the winter and rainy seasons. but covid hit them hard and it shut down permanently.

It’s a monster! There’s a similar problem in the UK, mainly empty Skateparks with Scooter Kidz and a few young Dads that have trouble climbing up on to a platform 😏

Where I'm from we have an absolutely massive skatepark but all of the obstacles are pretty weird tbh. Maybe not for people from cali but in the midwest we don't have parks that are built like street league, so when you go there it's kind of uncomfortable because all of the contest type obstacles. It would be awesome if I was Nyjah but most of the locals just use a small section of the park, because the rest of it is built for straight up pros. I've been skating for 15 years and I barely skate any of the shit there. Plus the mini ramp is way too close together so what would be the best part is actually untouched because it was designed poorly

Being from the Midwest and having been skating since the late 90s I think what you're talking about are early skateparks. Maybe not, but in my experience the old parks were just built like what they saw on TV and often times they were huge.

It's a cool park but as I said a lot of the obstacles are to a point in size that you're going to get destroyed if you're not close to pro level. It's also hard to work your way up to said obstacles because we don't have smaller versions anywhere else.

there was one skatable thing and you rolled passed it a kazillion times and you even manuled on it that woulda been so sick, is that on either side of the bank to curbski you could hit it like a hip , there was mellow launch bank, you could floated into a back lip , back tail , kicky back tail , but good session and I get that whole getting injured from the 1st trick no matter how basic , before becoming diabled when I rode for a shop I threw my board down to warm up went for nose manual back foot missed back wheel nut bounced off my chin ending up with 12 stiches, thank you for skating for me now that Im disabled and had to give it up

@Dan have you been to the 1 in Spring Texas? I believe it's the largest in North America. It has a Texas shaped bowl. It's ridiculously huge. It also requires helmets. I took my 13 yr old there last year. He loved it. I was still recovering from my A.C.L. but I will go back down later this year to try it. #skategoals 🍄💚🤘

i used to pay and also drive 3+ hours to skate at a crowded ass skatepark where you had to wait 10+ minutes to drop in on any ramp. I lived in one the most popular capital cities as well. street skating used to be street skating only for a lot of people. I'm super jealous of kids nowadays. I feel like some old grandpa when shaking my fist when I see the countless kids complaining about how shitty some of their new numerous free skateparks are.
