This is amazing if only everyone understood how important it is for folks like us to go birding- -it's not just about seeing beautiful birds but it helps other learn just how important it is in saving the species and our surrounding environment. So we here at Retired Backyard Birders want to say thank you so much for sharing your adventures. Keep Up The Good Work... HAPPY BIRDING :)

I agree, I love birding. I wish more people actually birded instead of chasing on private property but there will always be some

Getting ready for the Biggest Week, 2019. Thanks for sharing Sarah! A good way to be on the right mind frame moving from Tanagers to Warblers.

I love the marsh but it puzzles me that there is nobody there after the end of may. I have been there the first two weekends of june and had it all to myself. Tons of waders, raptors and nesting warblers still around people :)

I've always found that funny myself, although now that I live out-of-state I sort of understand. If I had to choose between the breeding birds or the migrants I would choose the migrants, and since I can't take tons of time off work I prioritize early/mid-May. Plus I really enjoy seeing all my birding friends there during the festival!

I'm starting to get inspired to visit this area. Maybe the week before the biggest week just to beat the crowds.

Do it! The birds are great the week before and the week after, especially if you want to see something other than this wave of warblers (for example, Connecticut Warblers generally coming through a week or two later).

This is really nice! I went to this event for almost the whole week photographing the warblers since I live near Magee Marsh. I did a video on it a week or so after the event as well.

Boy these are great shots, great video. May I ask what gear you used? Thanks much for posting, I was hoping to go this year myself, but stuff came up. I love watching warblers without having to visit my Chiropractor afterwards. :) This is the place!

I agree-- no warbler neck here! All of this footage was taken on a Canon Powershot Sx50 HS (a nice compact little camera to take in the field) and stabilized using Adobe Premiere Pro editing software.

which camera did you use?
@sarahwinnicki19985 жыл бұрын
A combination-- some were shot on a Canon Powershot sx40 and the rest were shot on the sx50. They take surprisingly good video for the price and you can't beat the zoom without a massive, expensive telephoto lens!

It's a shame because of our greed and over population, all of these species are disappearing rapidly. Also you should never use a flash to photograph birds, unless you enjoy some one flashing you in the eyes repeatedly.
@sarahwinnicki19985 ай бұрын
yeah I hate flash photography on birds! As you can see from the footage, I'm the one taking the video, not taking still shots with flash photography (that was other photographers at the location)

What’s the point of this? Sheer relaxation? It’s like watching ants walk by....anting? Hey now, that’s an idea!

Inspiration and enjoyment! Watching birds is actually the largest hobby in the U.S.
