This song reminds me of my great grandfather - from the day his wife, my great grandmother passed away, he grived for her and kept saying, " I want to go be with my Jenny" - finally, that day came - and from that day forth - my great grandfather stopped greving for his wife, my great grandmother. I have no doubt that she met him at heavens gates and they are together for all eternity in heaven togeather. My their souls rest in Eternal Peace with Almighty God.

I am sure many can relate to this song somewhere in their life, for me it was my Dad, he didn't listen to Country Music, but the song was his life about my mother, married 44 years at the time of his death, she left so many times, yet he took her back every time she showed up. Funny how life is! This song was playing on the car radio when I walked out of the hospital the day he died, it still brings me to my knees!

This is one of the few country artists I'm glad to say I did see. At the 1984 World's Fair Liggett and Meyer's Amphitheater. During the show, the curtains would open on the back of the stage showing a panoramic view of the Mississippi River with the barges and steamboats passing. It was a shame they tore it down after the World's Fair. I remember him starting the show with none other than No Show Jones. Also saw Charlie Pride there. Both too awesome shows

I am not a fan of most country but some of the very best musicians of any genre are country legends, Hank Sr., Merle, Possum, Cash, Kris Kristofferson and the songs he wrote for others, Waylon, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, Earl Monroe, and Earl Scruggs, leaving out a few of course.

He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time" As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two He had underlined in red every single "I love you" I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today You know, she came to see him one last time Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good" He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today

Country wouldn't have survived without possum, and a few others back in the late 70's and early 80's to inspire the stars of today and up and coming stars in the future. Rest in Peace Possum.

Sirius Country Radio did a show earlier this year in which they played their list of the top 1000 country songs. Obviously it took a few days to play them all, but I look forward to hearing this at the very end. While this made it to the top 10 (maybe even top 5), I was INCENSED that it wasn’t #1 -which in my mind it will always be. NO ONE could sing like George Jones. His timing & phrasing was genius. Very glad to know he lived his last 13 years a sober man. He was a gift to the world. Long live this song AND the ol’ Possum! 🌹🙏🏻❤️✌🏻

This song ALWAYS breaks me down to my very knees ... bringing tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat ... it speaks to how much my father loved my mother. He left this earth in April 2010 ... and loved her deeply, to his very last breath. She still mourns him to this day. So do we all.

I'll never forget the moment I realized what this song meant. I had always heard it but never understood it until I was going through my Dad's cd collection when I was 12, just after Johnny Cash died. I could feel the emotion, the heartache, in it. It was the first time (and one of the only since then) that I felt a song rip my heart out.

I grew up listening to George in the 60's. I listened to him through the 70's and 80's in the military. I still listen to him. To me George Jones WAS country. I was honored to meet him a few times and he was always the gentleman. The world got a little sadder when the Possum passed away. Who's gonna fill their shoes...
