If anyone is genuinely wondering why 47 actually is a Hitman here is a summary: 47 was originally made to become a genetic soldier (a clone). He was trained from a very young age with firearms, military training, and the real world all from an insane asylum by the doctor that created him (Dr. Ort Meyer). After escaping the asylum he joined the ICA and became a Hitman. During this early phase of his career, the doctor that made him secretly tricked the ICA into making 47 kill the men that 47s genetic code was made from. After killing all of his genetic fathers, Ort Meyer sent him back to the asylum where he was raised and lured him into the basement, after a confrontation with ort Meyer, 47 eliminates all of his fellow clones, along with Ort Meyer himself. After escaping, 47 retired from the world of assassination, and lived a peaceful life as a church gardener for a few years, until Ort-Meyers brother, and a mysterious man with a briefcase (theorized to be the constant from this game) kidnap the priest and manipulate the ICA into doing their business (again). After killing Ort-Meyers brother and all of his associates (excluding the mysterious man with the briefcase). 47 then rescues the priest, and comes to a conclusion, although he wasn’t ever meant to exist, he has found his true purpose in life and continues to be a Hitman. So he continues to be a Hitman, because it’s what he is, and always will be .

Alright, that's the most well explained answer I got to that question I'd say. Most others just basically said "because that's what he was made for", which I get, but didn't answer as to why he _wanted_ to be one. You hit that point pretty convincingly I'd say. I played contracts and Silent Assassin so long ago that I couldn't remember exactly where 47 lands by the end of all the madness of quitting then going on a revenge murder spree. St Petersburg was fun I remember but that's about it haha.

Yup! he has a real talent for comedic editing. I say this is as someone who has worked in film and television. I think 47's motivations are that he is actually an escaped patient from an asylum, Diana doesn't actually exist but is one of the voices he hears in his head and whenever Diana's voice points out a target to him, he just obeys without asking questions.

@@bxxtrr That's a good point, but I believe he is his alter ego. Secretly in the game's lore (totally not my fantasy), all Lucas's kills are 47's. Lucas is the part of 47's psyche that feels guilty for everything that he's done. When Lucas dies, 47 loses control and goes on a little rampage. First all those agents in Berlin, then goes to China to burn ICA to the ground, has a standoff with Diana in Argentina (he effectively tries to confront his own bloodlust and loses, because it's become too strong) and then murders everyone he sees on a train somewhere in Romania.
