@@ichris2011 I'm ok with appreciating other people's opinions and stuff but the fact that the Grammys are supposed to look at things "objectively" and then they do shit like this, it just destroys any credibility award shows like that have. 1989 is a bland dance-pop that rips off artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson who were doing shit like that 30 years before Taylor. Hip hop is the biggest genre in music right now and Kendrick completely transcended it with this album, breaking barriers and setting new standards for future rap artists. Don't know whether anybody has noticed this but at the end of Mortal Man (end of the album) its actually a seamless transition into Sherane A.K.A Master Splinters )beginning of GKMC. Depending on your reading of both albums TPAB in particular, it could be seen as a prequel to GKMC. In Mortal Man he discusses with Pac the future of the black youth the youth in which Kendrick would have been a part of (Given pac died in the 90's). This transition into Sherane and in fact GKMC as a whole can be Kendricks perception of Pacs words and how Kendrick has embodied the youth. If this is what Kendrick meant to achieve from this it truly cements him at the top of the game not just as a hip hop artist but as a forward thinker. Kendrick is what the world needs, and this album demonstrates his power.

If nobody understands the meaning of the album, Ill explain it, in a short detail. The depression Kendrick felt throughout TPAB is him being conflicted in how he approaches racism and he doesn't know what to do. Poor black people are like caterpillars that are searching for food and are still developing, its like were undeveloped like a child, that's why Tupac said in "Mortal Man" as you get older as a black man you start to lost hope in life and your not talkative and you basically give up in life. This statement is reflected in movies like "Baby Boy" where its basically saying that black man in general are like young boys because we are never fully embraced as men based on the atrocities society throws at us and theres this lack of developing especially if your poor and black. A black man can turn into a butterfly when you becomes rich or famous, basically earning money for yourself to help your self esteem and you feel fully developed as a man, but Kendrick preaches that even in this position your in, you can still be taken advantage of like a pimp. That's why Kendrick also says throughout the album that hes trying to stay away from drugs or other evils like Lucy (Lucifer) in order not to be taken advantage of. So Kendrick says in order to end racism is for the butterfly to spread its wings to shed light. A butterfly is beautiful and only during the daytime when its warm weather it comes out and when the butterfly spread its wings it sheds light. This butterfly shedding light is also a double entendre to allude to a black person spreading positive messages and uplifting their community which refers to shedding light. If a successful black person sheds light on the positive messages of what they experienced to poor black people, this can end the cycle of racism because poor black people can learn a lot and try to change the aspects that are going on in their life. The message of the butterfly shedding light is disapproved from the first song "Westley Theory" which mentions this confusing state of whether a successful black person should come back home which can refer to their old neighborhood, ghetto, or any poor urban area, theres this confliction of "Which you never came?" and "Niggas wanna come back home," and this revelation happens towards the end of the song where it mentions "Black men coming" in a very frantic and panicky way as almost saying its a bad decision to come back to your home that was poor. On "Moma" is where Kendrick first mentions that hes coming home and this foreshadows to "Mortal Man" where hes shedding light to poor black people in order to overcome their negative circumstances. Kendrick says the caterpillar and the butterfly are basically the same and need each other because racism will continue to happen if black people don't help each other and we shouldn't rely on the government or other entities to help us, black people should rely on each other no matter if your rich or poor. Kendrick tells black people to have self responsibility on songs like "Blacker the Berry." So basically hes saying that black people should stop being victims and help each other, and the more black people help each other theres a possibility racism can end.

Small revision. I'm pretty sure the end of Wesley's Theory the choir is yelling "TAX man coming", in reference to Uncle Sam taking the money of black men for material items, essentially "pimping out" the "butterfly" for his own gain this album is layers deep

+Xpack_Music Lmfao you realize it's the other way around right? GKMC is less esnical when taken apart, while TPAB can be ripped apart and every song still remains flawless. Even though he recites bits of the poem, the songs can still be listened to separately.

Kendrick is just a step above the other rappers. By far the best rapper of this generation. I don't want to hear those J. Cole and Drake comparisons to him because they are just not on Kendricks level plain and simple.
@desmondduckket23369 жыл бұрын
Cole is on his level to me, never Drake though.
@kanyewest1849 жыл бұрын
Kendrick and Cole are really similar in Sound, but Drake is driving in his own lane of music (style). You can't really compare Drake to other rappers, because they're not similar enough to do so. All three don't focus on the same things, they all have different styles. In Rapping and in Hip Hop, I'd put K Dot and Cole right next to each other (Kendrick Slightly Above) and Drake under them two. In all the other aspects, I'd put Drake above Kendrick then J Cole. *This is my unbiased opinion
