Keep in mind since it's OLED the pixel response time is super low compared to other headsets. You don't really need 120hz for super butter smooth motion. If you look at any KZbinr who has reviewed this they've all said the lower refresh rate felt completely normal to them and wasn't an issue, basically all complaints were FOV related which doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.

I agree it sucks for showing off what truly good VR actually is - but far less people are willing to spend enough money for an expensive headset and an expensive PC to run it. I hate standalone and agree it's a massive step back for VR - but I also accept that it has it's place for now in getting millions into VR, many of whom may otherwise have never bought a headset at all.

Similar pancake optics. The biggest difference will be the fact it's standalone (self contained mobile device) + pass through features.

God dammit. These guys really are going to finally make me upgrade from my Rift S. The FOV still isn't quite as large as I would want, but at least now it's a clear upgrade from something like the rift S and Quest 2. And I doubt the Quest 3 will have any wider FOV than the Quest 2 either.

The only real benefit it had was the increased resolution. But it was less comfortable and I only use PCVR anyways so with compression it didn't particularly look better than my Rift S so I kept the Rift ever since.

If you look at the image, it looks like the ppd goes down the further away from the center you look. 32ppd in the center and the very edges was 20 something, which is like the quest 2.

Those who know the difference between LCD and OLED understand. LCD panels are garbage for VR. I used my "upgrade" Valve Index for all of 5 minutes before I had to to waste a lot of time pulling it out of my computer and reconnecting my old Vive Pro.

If this VR headset gets a wireless adapter of some kind from either Bigscreen themselves or from a third party (Such as nofio), then I feel this VR headset will become the new KING of VR as we know it REGARDLESS of it being wired or wireless. Pre-ordered back in March (Q1 2023) and let me tell you that I have never been this excited for a VR headset in a very long time. Feels GREAT to finally be replacing my Quest 1. What's even better is I already have Valve Index controllers & Base Stations that I use with the Quest 1 (by using Space Calibrator on SteamVR over Virtual Desktop), which means the Beyond will essentially be a Plug-n-Play headset for me.

They're definitely missing out on a big audience by not working on at least a belt-attached/pocketable wireless adapter. Imagine the same single cable doing down to your belt or pocket with the wireless adapter and battery. It doesn't even need to be WiGig with the line of sight limitation.

There's no way a headset without eye tracking will be king of anything. VR enthusiasts just don't understand or care for technology. Dynamic foveated rendering and seamless interactions are both necessary technologies for VR to go to the next level, and both are based on eye tracking. People think that this worthless VR has good resolution, but then a worse and cheaper headset with eye tracking will get better results at everything because DFR is literally the most revolutionary VR technology from the last 10 years, and people are giving that up by supporting this headset.

That's just the limit of Displayport 1.4. A 4090 can't output more pixels any faster than that, even if it can technically render them. The 90hz mode uses DSC which is visually lossless, a lot of the other headsets do this as well just without telling you.

@@ji3200Incorrect. You're getting the full resolution per eye. In transit, it uses a common compression method used in many devices, but then returns to full resolution. It is lossless - there is not perceptible reduction in quality. This headset basically makes Crystal obsolete - you're better off with Beyond.

It compresses when it's sent, then decompresses in the headset. There is no visual perceptible difference. You get the full resolution when it reaches the displays of the headset. No worries, get a Beyond and enjoy the full resolution :)
