I'm looking into a larger full time 5th wheel at the moment after selling our property. Going to be going with the 40' give or take, probably longer for the comfort. Should I be concerned with my mere 30k pound truck?

@@chrischapman276 I was pulling it with my 03 F350 CC SRW 7.3 diesel, I have since purchased a 2015 F350 dually with the same widetrack front end as the F450. Your Ram is plenty adequate for pulling a 40'+ 5th wheel. My 7.3 had the guts just not the gearing.

That floorplan is really nice and actually makes sense and makes me think that someone with a brain actually designed it considering some of the floorplans that I have seen where everything is just jumbled around. Not sure how I feel about the bedroom entrance and exit to the outside of the unit though. But then again this unit's MSRP is close to what I paid for my house so I guess I don't have much room to talk.

Damn Nice! I bought a Outback 316rl five yours ago when my health took a turn. Enjoyed being a full time RVER. 16yr. employer fired me after I told him I now need medical attention,with no offer to keep health insurance. Bank took my home without a problem, that's business. Maybe I have missed it in a past video, but I would sure like a comparison of double versus triple axles when on units this size. It’s silly, but I’m the worst case scenario kind of guy. Let’s say you’re out in God’s Country and need a second tire. I’m not confident that Ol’ Zeke’s Pit Stop is going to be able to get you a 17.5” tire quickly. But if you really had to, a 16, 17, 18 are a lot easier to come by to get you out of a jamb. Plus, an RV will track fine on 5 tires in an emergency situation. 3, not so much. But an educated opinion would be appreciated.

Beautiful, well laid-out floor plan. Dark wood should resemble cherrywood for a richer look. Hope you have an oak wood option. Forest River is a good company and treated us very well when several years ago they bought out Sandpiper and we had some damage done to the trailer jack by the delivery driver. We haven't forgotten that and we tell people. The company stands behind its products. Forest River is definitely a manufacturer to go with when purchasing an RV!

The only reason to buy a Forest River is if you enjoy paying top dollar to finish something someone else started. We are still finishing building our 2018 Forest River. Finally got all the water leaks under control, wiring finished and working on spray foaming all of the holes in the floor.

Now that i think on it manufacturers really need to start a driving training course. These rigs are getting bigger and heavier. No problem for a guy who regularly hauls big loads. But the new retirees who just bought their first trucks are the ones who concern me. I dont necessarily care about them, its when they are on the road with me and my family that gets me nervous.....

I have worked on so many Cardinal fifth wheels lately. They are nice looking, but damn, they have soooooo many problems. Steer clear of them, never seen so many disappointed customers over a single brand in my life. Go with Montana or winnebago if you want something that will last.

A lot of 5th wheels are made for married couples or families that have older kids. I have a 2 year old who sleeps in a pack and play and goes to bed at 8-830 the only place for that would be the living room which means if I wanted to watch tv at night I will have to do it in my bedroom.

You made a comment that this unit was a full time living unit. I would be interested to know about the wall construction whether steel, aluminum, or wood. Also an idea of insulation in the walls, floor and ceiling and if the windows are double pane. You say the A/C is whisper quite where as I find A/C units to be obnoxiously loud. I guess it has a standard RV furnace which are also obnoxiously loud and I believe very inefficient. I'm surprised instead of three units in might be better to put in a small central system. Another feature is winterizing these. My motorhome has an easy drain monobloc water supply. Just open the water faucets and the bottom drain for hot and cold, if the pump is above the water level in the tank you can leave water in the tank and the pump should be fine. Put some antifreeze in each drain trap and your done. Do the full time units have interior water supply and drain lines? All sewer tanks should have the easy option of installing a grinder or macerater pump. Even when parked you can let the tanks fill up and pupm them out when one is full. These should have reels for water, electric and macerater hoses. Along with that the tank sizes would be nice to know, I off grid in a motorhome and I pack in water in two 45 gallon tanks and gravity feed it into my motorhome tank so at least 100 gallon fresh is a minimum in these big units with corresponding gray and black tanks. With a full time unit having them in a heated compartment so the drain valves don't freeze. I know you aren't the builder but you seem to like the back ladder and I don't. Why would you want to give kids or criminals such easy access to your roof to potentially damage it? The ladders should be stored in the basement and there should be an access to the roof from the inside. You could then use the roof as a sun deck or viewing platform if it is strong enough. If you get rid of all the A?C units you could have a lot of solar panels up there to always keep a fridge powered as long as it is in the sun. I find that every protrusion through the roof is a maintenance problem down the road. Last thing, having to lock and unlock and double check all os the storage compartment is a pain. They should come with electric locks and hidden doors with no latches for a clean look and security. During the day or while you're setting up you can leave it unlocked and at night you don't have to go around checking that everything is secure. I made this much longer than I was going to but I like your reviews and just wanted to give you some ideas for some questions I still have and others might like to know about. As others have stated elsewhere in the comments, the entire gross weight of the trailer is never supported entirely by the axles. Either the hitch or the landing gear support over 2000 lbs so this is weight the axles do not have to support.

As always a really excellent review! It's a very good looking unit. I like the way it's laid out and just the eye appeal of it all over! BUT! There is a lot of things I see that bother me to much about it that would make me me probably keep me from buying it if I could afford it. Examples: This unit really should be a tr-axle AND keep them still almost as heavy if not the same. This would increase the G.V.R. weight and change the distribution as well as help make it a really great trailer. The manufactures are ALL just cutting the axles way to close for comfort. The heavier axles are not that much more expensive and just a dumb place to cut the building costs! The regulation in this industry are absolute SH... and that's saying it nicely! So far the only manufactures I have seen that seem to care are Air Stream and Pleasure Way. While neither is perfect they do seem to want to build a quality product! Unfortunately most people, including me, can't afford them! To go on, The things I see in the video also bother me. The over spray of all the foam insulation. The sloppiness of the paint in the bays. If they are sloppy here WHERE ELSE have they been sloppy??? It tells me they don't give a damn about things. Which translates to me as they don't give a damn about the customer! Do I want to do business with a company like this! If you are buying a unit like this for this kind of money it should be the best quality not the cheapest they can make it for the most money they can charge. The 80 thousand is what the real MSRP should be not the pipe dream bull crap lie that they are giving! (I KNOW they all do it and it's the way of the world now.) Then discount it down from there! WE ALL KNOW that MSRP is nothing but the baloney all manufactures give to try to fool you into thinking you are getting such a great deal! Sorry I made such a long comment and there is much more I could say. I'll stop now though. Keep up your excellent reviews. I'm faithfully watching you. Respectfully John

I totally agree. I can't understand why everyone doesn't demand stronger axles. I would happily pay the extra cost to have three axles on this unit and have the tires and axles strong enough that any two of the axles will suffice. Otherwise, you're running right at the edge of the specs. Even one flat tire and you're now running all the non-tongue weight on just one axle. WHAT? Seriously? How much more would it increase the price to over-engineer the axles/wheels/tires. 5%?

You're not going to find a RV with 2 full bathrooms the best you will get 1 full bathroom and a toilet on its own, if thats what you're looking for a toyhauler would be pretty good, you could have the garage area converted into a second bedroom and most toyhaulers will have a toilet in the garage area so that would be the second bathroom sorted. Depending on how big your budget is a grand design momentum 351m would probably be perfect or something with a similar layout and they are around 39ft, start at around $75k(you can probably get this down), tandem axle, seating for 4 with decent view of the TV(don't know if thats your sort of thing), 2 bathrooms (1 just a toilet), room for the kids and if you opt for the veranda doors at the rear you could use the ramp as a safe outside play area without having to close the ramp every night and last but not least its a grand design so it should have good build quality.

My one concern is the axle placement. With so much of the trailer extending beyond the axles it would seem to be prone to sway. It just appears as though the axles should be further back as they look to be almost in the middle.

Cool. My year model is a 2016. I bought mine on a private sale. The guy who owned it last does welding. He bought it so his family could go with him. but his wife is having a second baby. So it was pointless for him just to be in that huge rig by himself. That was his word. He installed the same gooseneck connection as what btbr have now. He also did some extra upgrades that you won't find from any rv. He did so much that it would be a long write to type it all out. But I haven't able to use it yet. My aunt and uncle has been living in it full time due to their house caught on fire. Its been a blessing for them, because we park the rv on their property so they can be close by while they are rebuilding their home. That rv its been a blessing. It has gotten me a second income where I just paid off my truck.

I'm a big fan of the ceader creek destination trailer. Will put it in my seasonal camp ground. My current trailer is an old 40' aljo. But it is in ok shape. Just have to have a sliding door to get into my hard top screen room. A 5th wheel looks great. It just won't work for me. Good walkthrough.

87k for that? That has low end jayco quality issues. Cabinetry looks cheap, insides of cabinets look unfinished, sprayfoam protruding around that frame, sloppy sealant application. Maybe 50k... MAYBE.

I agree the price is a little steep considering a high end one like a Luxe is only about 30k more. But I will say that Forest River isn't near as quality cheap as Jayco. Jayco is the worst in the entire market in my opinion. I've owned a Forest River 25' trailer for 5 years. I've had some minor issues that were fixable with no major problems. But definitely not Jayco cheap.

All travel trailers are built cheap, I worked as a camper / rv technician. Beds are cheap, faucets are cheap, cabinets are cheap, if you ever buy one, upgrade all faucets, and mattresses. This rv needs a 3rd axle.

That main shower is no better than you would find in a cheap apartment. Wonder why they skimped on the amenities in that bathroom, especially at this price point.

I have been dying to ask this question but i am from over the pond in the uk so forgive my thickness. Why is it called a 5th wheel when it has 6 wheels?

This unit has four wheels, it's a double axle. But the 5th wheel term comes from the way it is towed by the truck. It's a 5th wheel camper. Smaller travel trailers are towed behind the truck, on a regular hitch. The 5th wheel is connected in the bed of the truck, over the axle. Like how big trucks/trailers work.

All the companies weight their RV's as the leave the factory, there is a sticker that gives the exact weight and is usually within a few pounds of the general sticker weight.

Great review. The following are my impressions of the 5th wheeler not your review. However is this really a high end 5th wheeler? I saw on the video several issues that would put me off. There were dings and dents in the shelf in the bed room. The place where the generator goes the sealant looked like it had been applied by a blind person. Also that big grey pipe attached to underneath looked like it had wasp nest attached to it. Was I seeing things? So if that is an example of a high end RV what do low end look like. My wife and I would love some kind of RV. Later in the year we hope to be in a position to do it. But looking at some of these that are being reviewed, I/we are getting less impressed by the product available. If I am wrong I apologize.
