As someone who has driven some pretty big rigs, my uncle had me working on set in Hollywood as a teenager going down side streets with triple axle trailers and having Motorhomes and towing etc I can say he drives that rig much better than I would have expected someone who isn’t a trucker to drive!

Hey David. Next time this happens to your water heater check the ohms between the terminals of the element and it should read around 10 ohms give or take. Remove the wires but leave the element in the heater before checking. If you get a good reading then it’s most likely your thermostat. There is a reset on the thermostat and there is a thermostat for the A/C side and one for the gas side. These are easy to replace if necessary.
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I needed you about 3 weeks ago! Finally discovered it the other day along with a fried wire. Appreciate your insight.
@lancewulfers25024 ай бұрын
The water heater element sockets are available at most Ace Hardware stores since they are a standard size. I purchased a professional model which is a heavy duty socket ground flat on the front and thin wall enough to get to the element and get a good purchase on it. You don't throw the elements around since they are fairly fragile when not installed in the water heater.

As a trucker, whenever I pull into a lot (like Walmart) with a trailer, I always park facing the exit. There have been a number of times I parked in a nearly empty lot, and come back out 30-45 minutes later, and found several cars in the area I used to turn around. Since you were there overnight, there's a good chance that those cars belong to commuters who are car pooling.

The problem with your water heater is either the little black switch to the left of the heating element or the thermostat that is in the square black cover above the element, there are 2 thermostats the one on the left is 120v the one on the right is 12v ( propane), you can use a multi meter and test for power on both sides of the 120v thermostat top and bottom

Good Morning David: My wife and I follow your channel and have subscribed as well. We are, however, confused and perplexed about this episode, left with the question, did you ever fix or get repaired the water heating element. Also at the start of the episode you stated your didn't know how the element functions. If others have not replied to your question, the element alloy contains Nickle metal. When a currant is forced through the element the Nickle provides a resistance to currant flow, with a by product of heat. Thank you for your channel, Best regards John and Ruthie.
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Hi John & Ruthie- Great observation! I wasn't able to get it fixed in this video because I didn't have time to trace the circuit. When i arrive at a parking lot at night, i always park in a place where i cannot be blocked in, and have direct access to an exit.
@bigtruckbigtravels15 күн бұрын
Yep. Always a good idea. Got to have an exit strategy.

Sondra, I hope you find your diamond!💎 💎

I think she already found it by marrying David.... and vice versa!

No diamond, Marian. But...I don't think she "needed any"...😂🤔🤣

Awww...thanks, Carol. I would say I'm cheaper than a diamond...but I don't think that's correct! LOL

When I heard US 270 highway I knew that was a familiar roadway. Did you explore all of historic downtown Hot Springs. Did you take some of the world famous hot springs water with you for drinking water. I remember the day of the eclipse at the magic time it was dark.
@bigtruckbigtravels29 күн бұрын
We did! Drank the water and went downtown. We love the historic area.

Ours electric side went out and I found out after troubleshooting the relay was bad
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Ours was the thermostat, David, right behind the "reset" cover. Easy replacement once I found it.
@rodlappin61477 ай бұрын
There is a little switch at the left lower you just put your finger on at 1029 that most likely is the culprit. I replaced mine and didn't need to. You do need to empty the water before doing it. Haven't watched all of your video yet.
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Oh...you'll see later on...it's not the switch...I replaced that off-line. 🤣

Fabulous backing David. Do you get to see the Eclipe twice??. If so lucky people. I saw this couple in a green truck & trailer & somebody mentioned they shold look up you two on Y/Tube?? Cheers to you both.p.s. hope your water heater is going OK. ❤️

Thank you...saw the eclipse once...but relived it twice! LOL. Finally got the water heater working on electric...it was a fried wire at the thermostat.

Usually the element is fine and it’s the control board and you get to upgrade to a dinosaur electrics board… have one for the water heater and they have one for the furnace too! I hope your T&P valve doesn’t leak now they seem to leak when you open them lol 😂🤦♂️ Just saw the element didn’t do it, so it’s going to be one of two things most likely… the control board as stated above or the relay which is there with the water heater too.
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Yep... the element was fine... it ended up being the thermostat... the wiring had fried.
@bounderchris7 ай бұрын
@@bigtruckbigtravels it was the thermostat and it worked on gas? Wow! Glad you figured it out!

with a good telescope you can see stars during the day time. I've seen Jupiter and the northstar and others. found this out during a star party here in Oregon. I saw a guy looking through his telescope and I asked him what he was looking at and he told me jupiter. I thought he was fooling me so he showed me. then when we got back to the observatory he showed me the north star and others. I was blown away. By the way, the guy showing me these things was the Professor of astronomy at the college. I had to quit t his hobby as I a m diabetic and my eyes would not focus looking through the telescopes

OK...that's cool. We saw Saturn at a Star Gazing event at McDonald Observatory in Texas and it looked like a picture taped on the lens! It was super cool!

I didn’t see you put the plastic/rubber piece back on the end of element that covers the wires? You opened the relief valve with it off and water went on the wires
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
True...and I didn't think about that until afterwards. It still didn't work but I did get it figured out about a week later when we landed. Next time I'll replace it first.

Hi beautiful people, that's some serious reversing skills you have. I have give Sondra credit here as well for assisting with directions. Can't wait to see the diamond mining vid. Safe travels 🙏

Hey Brendan! Thanks...good editing helps as well! 😂🤣😎 Sondra is a huge help and makes it much easier. You're starting to get into your "winter", so the hot days are behind you? The mining is interesting. See you next week. Hope all is well at the "fish factory".

I can't seem to find the electric nut remover tool for the water heater. Do you happen to know the actual sizes on ether end.
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
I believe the actual sizes are 1.25" and 1 1/8". Here's the link to the tool. a.co/d/iKfSY8T
