Big Truck Big Travels

Күн бұрын

We've been planning this Alaska RV road trip for over a year and we're doing it. Enough talk, let's walk! Well...we'll drive but you get the picture.
Taking our Class C to Alaska so we can get to some remote areas and drive on roads less traveled. We've taken our Big Rig before but this time will be different. We're going to Denali and Tek campground but also the Dalton highway and so much more.
We head down to Seward, Alaska for a week in hopes of seeing Orcas this time. We missed them in 2017 so came up early in the season to catch them in Resurrection Bay. We have the campground to ourselves when we pull in so it's nice and quiet.
We check out the town and see what's going on as there is a cruise ship in port. We also want to try and hike to Exit Glacier. No joy as it's closed!
Whaaat?!? Kenai Fjords National Park is closed?!? We have to find out about this one since I want to hike the Harding Icefields.
Well, it's Sondra's birthday week so we go to where we know we'll see animals...Seward SeaLife Center! Looking for otters but unfortunately, they don't have them now.
A visit to a black sand beach and testing the water (it's tradition) is always a thing to do...and in Alaska it's usually cold!
A wildlife cruise is a special event and it's why Sondra got a new pair of weatherproof pants! The ocean is rough but the views are amazing. Alaska has such a diverse animal population that it's incredible.

RV Camping
We like to Switch it Up between resorts and campgrounds.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:
Epidemicsound.com
Tracks:
Come Closer by Epidemic Sound
Six O'Pluck by Candelion
Staycation by Paper Twins
They'll build a statue of us by Adriel Fair
Amazon Shop (no extra charge to you)
A convenient way to see (or buy) the items you see in the video's which may help in your adventure.
www.amazon.com...
We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.

@@bigtruckbigtravels as you head up the road towards Exit Glacier, you will see on your left, turn outs where people have gone through the trees and out onto the riverbed. Not all of these are in outstanding shape to get your motorhome through them. But there are several that are plenty good to get your motorhome through. I would suggest just taking the Jeep out there figure out which one you need to turn on to….mark it…. go back get the motorhome and all done. Glorious views with not a soul out there.

Love these episodes. Brings back so many memories of my trip in 2016. For everyone who is wanting to travel thru CANADA and ALASKA in the shoulder seasons, PLEASE CONSIDER that CAMPGROUNDS ARE CLOSED TILL MAY LONGWEEKEND and then CLOSE ON LABOR DAY in the beginning of sept. Some stay open to OCT 1ST but not all. Also consider that public attractions and even resturants may NOT OPEN TILL THE KIDS ARE OUT OF SCHOOL in the end of june, and then again close after labor day in sept. KEEP up the great travel video's. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.

Oh y’all are making me miss Alaska so bad. In the summer there in Kenai, Alaska, and Soldotna the light poles that are beside the road has huge flower pots that are hanging from them and the colors are amazing. I fished the Kenai river and caught pink salmon but we would be setting in the boat and a seal would pop up out of the water with a salmon hanging out it’s mouth like nothing to see here folks. 😆

I'm not even an RV person, but am absolutely fascinated with the lifestyle. I am so thankful KZbin recommended me your channel. I've been addicted ever since. You two are truly entertaining, and seem like such wholesome, upbeat folk. I started off with the tour of Orion, and haven't looked back. The way you constantly handle adversity with positivity and optimism has truly been a joy to watch, and an influence on my own life. Y'all are just so clever, responsible, and fun loving, and the production quality is great. You both have such good qualities that complement each other. Better than most any "reality show" I've ever seen on TV. I'll stop now with my overly effusive praise lol, just wanted to fully express my appreciation. Looking forward to your future adventures 👍

If you get back down and get the chance you can camp in the Russian river campground and hike to the Russian river falls.
