Another steal by JB. Well done Vancouver. 3rd Best player in this draft. I think him and Kakko are very close. You can teach skills but you cannot teach heart. This kid has the heart and the will.

@mojo 100% his contract with the KHL. That's why he dropped.

Reminds me so much of Brady Tkachuk and Landeskog. Just a workhorse on the boards and a hound on the puck with great instincts and hockey IQ.

This kid has an absolute motor. Canucks dug up a gem
@ml47923 жыл бұрын
he was always a steal hr honestly couldve been a top 2-3 pick but his extra years in the khl changed many teams mind
@Hansen_365 жыл бұрын
You look at the way that he shifts around in the zone, constantly reading the play and adjusting. I think that exhibits great IQ. Some of these high risk plays into the slot are sloppy, but its tough to establish good systems play on national teams for these tournaments. I think there's some big potential for Podkolzin to be a top 6 power winger for the Canucks for a long time

With him and no horvat it will be nice to have.

Podkolzin looks strong with and without the puck. he could take a hit and dish them out. can and will block shots. Vancouver drafted a truly gifted player here.

Insane motor. High hockey sense and makes the little plays. Nucks fans you got yourselves a winner imo.

Hundo P. Not sure why he was such a "risk". Most picks won't pan out for a couple years anyway. He's like a tank at 17 yrs old already and his 200 ft. game is from another galaxy at that age. The skill is one thing, but his board work and patience is another.
@webslinger77725 жыл бұрын
@@yourfaceistube this "risk" was his contract... Which I dont understand cause prospects normally take 2-3 years anyways? As a Nucks fan I sure as hell ain't complaining! Haha.
@warshawgameshd34325 жыл бұрын
@@webslinger7772 The development can normally be overseen and guided by the team, but due to the team it is with, they are hard to communicate with and prolly won't allow for direct training.

This is the best highlight package I've seen so far that displays his all around game. A perfect fit to play with Pettersson. Somebody that strong that also has skill and smarts to keep up with Pettersson. This guy could be a force. Imagine Pettersson/Podkolzin - Horvat/Boeser as our 1 - 2 punch. Just need a true #1 D. It's been mentioned quite a few times that the worry is that in 2021, his KHL team could offer him more money than the NHL entry level contract he would receive from the Canucks, but how much would St. Petersburg pay a 20 year old when only a few KHL players make more than 2 million per season? If he's does well in the KHL the next 2 years, he is likely to hit at least a couple of his schedule A bonuses during his ELC in the NHL, if not 3 or 4, bringing his salary up to the same level as the top KHL players. The culture shock seems to be more severe for Russians though. That's a concern.
@cheguevara84105 жыл бұрын
DJ Fawkes that may very well be, but I like him more with Bo along with perhaps Virtanen, that will be one beast of a line. It’d be cool for a guy like Hoglander to play alongside Petey and Boeser.
@yourfaceistube5 жыл бұрын
Based on his initial interviews at the draft, aside from no English and journalists throwing shade at him being a Russian player in Van and whether he'd stick around or not, he seemed genuinely eager to play here.
@warshawgameshd34325 жыл бұрын
@@yourfaceistube Yea he seemed really happy, and apparently, he made some comments saying he didn't wanna come to the US, assuming he wanted to play for a Canadian team.
@bretthughes86795 жыл бұрын
The fact he made the team and played is amazing. Teams will regret passing on him due to his contract. This was a really weak draft, and he is one of only 3 imho that will be a top line elite player.

Real power forward moves. When he speeds up through the neutral zone, if he gets a slight bead on a D man, he'll lower the shoulder and lean into his guy and bowl his way straight to the net. In the NHL most guys stay upright and swing around behind the net. Dropping that shoulder and heading for the net is a lost art these days.
