@@cameronreyno7175 Amazing talents, they just never found their own lane with this song as an exception. ‘Blown Wide Open’ for instance has much “Champagne Supernova”. Black Crowes, Soundgarden (Albatross/Burden in My Hand) and other (maybe unintentionally) borrowed elements in so many songs. Never found a signature, which frankly happens with a lot of Berklee alums - head and history informs songs vs uncolored instinct. Love this band but also mourn the songs they could’ve written going a unique path.

Thank you for that. Are you from the US? Big Wreck did good on the local level up here, & I couldn't agree with you more, shitty promotion. In another era I think they would have been global. The trouble is the only music promoted on radio & TV is the stuff that sells related merchandise. People literally don't know what they are missing.

Ian was pretty candid in an interview he did with Lee Anderton here on his youtube channel. The first album in 97 got them a foothold in the US. It was huge in Canada. There was 4 years between the first and sophomore records. Pleasure and Greed came out in 01. Ian said they collectively felt the pressure of trying to come up with a record that was as good or better. It led to in-fighting. The label didn't like it much, "don't hear a hit" stuff. In fairness, the record isn't as good. That discord within the group made Ian leave. He did his own thing for a while, was asked about auditioning for Slash to be the front man (who would end up being Myles Kennedy), and eventually they came back to each other. When they hit the scene, music was still heavily driven by instruments and actually playing them. It's not the case anymore, which is a shame - and not just for them.

@@SillyGoose2024 Since the first time I heard this song, I've always wondered what he, himself, meant with that line. The following is all speculation and I have no clue, so take this with a pinch of salt. I've heard that it is referring to the actual Marlon Brando, and that the term sorta means some dude who has lots of contacts and "friends" but never really calls or makes time for them. Acquaintances guised as close personal friends. I don't know much Marlon Brando lore, so perhaps this was a well-known tendency of the guy back in the day - him being hot and cold, aloof, and acting like people who aren't close are his best friends? I really don't know his intent, but the way my brain has always perceived it is sorta like "Meh, he's just some dude I know". Like a sort of friend-zone type of person. My name being Brandon and being called Brando a thousand times in my life, it strikes me every time I hear him sing that, and I end up personalizing it. If I ever became friends with the man, that'd be the one question I have about his music. *shrug* Would love to know.
