The Olympics were in 1984, and every Yugoslav has a tear in the eye when he hears the raphran "Yuuuugoooslaaaviiijooo, on the feet, sing so everyone can hear you, who doesnt listen to the song, he will listen to the storm!" .... and so we listen to the song by early 1990s when war begun and all republics separeted from Serbia and broke Yugoslavia.

Tito was Marshall in ww2 and partisan leader. After ww2 he was life time president of Yugoslavia. He died in 1980 and 10 years after Yugoslavia broke down in a bloody war. Capital of Serbia, Belgrade, was capital of Yugoslavia. Other countries constisting Yugoslavia were Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

This song, from 1986, came five years before Yugoslavia broke up and the ensuing wars began. It warns listeners about what seemed impossible at the time-war. The lyrics mention that Yugoslavia is a mother to some, but a stepmother to others. They also caution that if people don't listen to songs, they will have to listen to storms-perhaps implying "if you don't make love, you will go to war." The video has a Yugoslavian patriotic theme, which was a response to the rising separatist nationalism among Serbs, Croats, and others who considered the Yugoslavian identity secondary. Although the cracks in communism were evident by 1986, this song foresaw much more.

Bijelo Dugme (White Button) was the most popular band of the Yugoslav popular music, but I think that was not the best choice. Led by famous composer Goran Bregović, Bijelo dugme (beeyeloh doogmeh) always tried to sound counterporary, but in 1986, it was not so good. I suggest their prog rock period from mid 7os. From their second album in 1975. "Požurite konji moji" mas pinnacle of their shepherd rock trademark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKPCfJmAaNpjfqs I think you would like it more. Lyrics is traditional poetry-like, about guy who hurries his horses to bring him to his darling. Video quality is poor, but song is excellent.

People run through Yugoslavia, take over the baton, from one hand to the other and hand it over to Tito..... were famous and the incredible "Sletovi". You can google about May 25 and "Youth Day", also Sletovi. The words of the song are very strong. "...Yugoslavia, rise to your feet, sing, let them hear you. He who does not listen to the song, will listen to the storm.." Yugoslavia consisted of these countries: Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia and two provinces: Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija. A powerful, strong force from the state...Brotherhood and unity! I am the child of a mixed marriage, father Croatian, mother Bosnian, and I was born in 1981 in Serbia, where we live. Cult Yugo song, but... Is it just me or am I just stupid - this is "Eye of the tiger" original. "Bijelo dugme" or rather Goran Bregović is known for "borrowing" the melody. A friend of mine once said: Bregović is the first person who plagiarized himself. ... Bregović was signed for the music for the film "Queen Margot" (1994, a good film), and in Croatia, the Croatian song from Dalmatia "Jute san se zajubija" (I fell in love with you) immediately caught on.
