Bike Box - Travelling with your Road Bike

I took an old skate board, cut it in half then gaffer taped it to the heavy end of the box. I had to wheel it 2 km to the train station/airport. No problems, it was raining at the time too. Some airlines don't like gaffer tape inside cabin, so make an easy access point to jam the gaffer tape into the box at check in. I took the skate deck in carry-on bag.

Thanks for this. I'm heading to Japan tomorrow and I managed to cook something up. I had to use lawn mower wheels and drill out some L-brackets to size for the aluminum rod, but it worked. I used a washer up against the box and on the other side of the wheel, then used a small, tight o-ring to hold it.

can't you leave the wheels on upon check in?, i was thinking of fitting casters to a thin wooden base but leaving them on

how much weight can you put into the box ? will it not die after 1-2 trips ?

what about getting a cheap skateboard/longboard and just attaching it with some rope? did anyone ever tried that?

May want to use 2 more gromets in addition. Place the additional 2 closer to the box so the axle won't wander from side to side.
