Good basic info. You should have mentioned the reason for the speed designation on chains (10, 11, 12 speed chains) and how you have to match the chain to your gear setup. You should have also mentioned that most rear derailleurs will only support a 30 tooth cog maximum without having to add an extension hanger.

great video ! quick question.. I have a Giant Roam 2 with a HG200 (9sp 11-36t cassette)... Question.. Can the very last 11tooth cog (on a shimano) be replaced with a 10tooth cog ? I like the gearing of all other gears, however would prefer the final be a 10tooth instead of 11. Need more top speed on the flats !

when you are new to cycling world, everyone who is potty trained seems to have an openion... I know by common logic that smaller in front and larger in rear would increase cadence and decrease effort... so uphill needs that... and downhill needs larger plate in front and smaller in rear... Which makes the middle ring obviously for the flat surfaces with obviously as little bit of wiggle room once i get used to this process... I landed up buying a 27 speed mountain bike and then exploded the openion bomb from everywhere... people have such varied opinions that they can overwhelm your logical brain... I obviously came to youtube to listen to some experts... but surprisingly, there are no videos that clarify this obvious dilema... Thanks for this video, now I show this to everyone who challenges my logic! LIked and Subscribed... Keep up the good work!
@jaspreetsidhu57084 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily that simple but somewhat right. Cadence will generally stay the same. But the chain line changes. Using a 53-36 i spend most of my time mid cassette on an 11-34. Spinning with a 48 upfront results in me spending most of my time in the 15 and 13 tooth. Bigger ring upfront increases efficiency it's noticeable.

I have a probably silly question. Do you Need to adjust your Rear derailleur if you change your casette? Lets say i go from a 11-32 to a 11-30 or 11-28 on a ultegra groupset 11 speed
@TheSuperi94 жыл бұрын
11-32 to 11-30 you simply need to adjust the length of the chain

I think another tip is when to shift, i.e. you should shift when you aren't putting load on the pedals right? So it's best to shift when the pedal is between the 10 & 2 position? That way you aren't really putting any pressure on the drivetrain, I think? From a standstill on flat ground would you be in the lowest gear, just like in a car or can you be in the second or third lowest gear?

Hi guys, it might be irrelevant to this video, but can I get some advice from you all, I tried using degreaser on my chains to remove stains and try scrubbing it off but there are still some stuck on it. I tried using soap to finish up my cleaning process and its still there, Any advice please? Thanks in advance:)
@marydavis22374 жыл бұрын
You need a solvent to rid the chain of all grease and muck. Petrol/white spirit will do the job, but you will need to dry it completely before applying your fresh lubricant. The best way is to remove the chain and soak in solvent, then get a tooth brush to give it a complete going over. Dry over night , then apply your chosen lubricant.

@weldonyoung10134 жыл бұрын
Why lub your chain from the top. How about applying oil to the inside loop of the chain just in front of the rear derailleur lower jockey wheel. I guess half-step gearing went out long ago, likely when freewheels, now freehubs, gain more than 6 cogs. Yes freehubs are a true modern advantage, they move the weight loaded bearing closer to the frame. Ok, I've got a 33-speed bike, but due to cross chaining can only use about 21. Why do we still talk speeds, shouldn't we be talking cog count & number of chain rings. Or in place of number of chainrings: granny gears (and the tooth count can go down to 24 for truly impressive hills); dual chainring; and, standard single. Plus, these are all moving part subject to wear. You'll need more info about when a chain has worn & contributes to gear wear (personally I like 0.5% chain wear to indicate replacement). And there is also that cog count again, because that is how you'll determine what new chain to get. Get one designed for you're cog count. Form there you'll have to decide what model to get, I suggest asking bicycle shop staff.

Or even 30 tooth front inner chain ring with 36 tooth rear sprocket giving 0.833 ratio. You say 34/34 or 1.0 is "optimal " for hill climbing. Not so for this 61 living near Peak District in hilly Barnsley. Always handy to have a sub 1.0 gear ratio. 🙃🌈 ❤ Plus if you like hill climbing you still need to come downhill so need a good high gear at least above 4. So more about having a good range of gear ratios so 0.833 to 4 plus.

The most important gear on your bike is the rear wheel, but none of these geniuses ever take wheel size into consideration when calculating the gear ratios. This goes to show they are not really into bikes, but just trying to sell stuff.

This bike was really easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

California has some excellent cycling infrastructure. Long straight beach/coast lanes and endless inland routes that parallel the concrwte river/flood infrastructure. but damn California has some cheeky auto drivers.
