Awesome video! I asked this before but I'll ask again, what are people willing to pay for that amount of work and supply cost? I painted helmets and bicycles 30 years ago but went back to college and became an engineer. I had fun painting and still do but short of opening a body shop, I wasn't seeing the kind of profit needed to make a good living. I'm in Socal as is Troy Lee so there's a decent client base here.

Because the tubeset is made by Cinelli and labeled by Cinelli under BREV.228295-84. So it's official a Cinelli wo produced the Battaglin lugs and tubesets.

Very nice explanation of the type of paint job and what it takes to do it. I have an 89 Pinarello Montello with this type of paint, in a sort of brown color believe it or not. It has factory pantographed Campagnolo seat post and Cinelli stem, factory-painted to match the frame and I always wondered how this paint job was accomplished. It is all in fgood condition, probably because I've had the bike and am too afraid to ride it as I have been told that this paint is very delicate and I can certainly see why. Seems to be holding up but having not been on the road or exposed to the elements for almost 25 years, I guess that should be expected.

Wonderful video! Is the clear coat also special for cromovelato? I have an early 1980s Moser frame with cromovelato paint that is starting peel in places. I would like to at least slow it down, and was thinking of clear coating it. Thanks again.
@July-fb7yc Жыл бұрын
Important question, I think so too. Can't find anyone in Germany, who (re)paint my cromovelato. Really sad story. I guess, Martin used the same clearcoat, because it has to cover up the the basic chrome layer (from the beginning) in the peeled off areas, too. But it's just a logical reflection - so it could be false. ;-)

I looked up Cromovelato a week or two ago and found almost nothing about it. Then you come and make a whole tutorial and save the day - Spooky! The only question I still don't know the answer to: What exactly IS cromovelato? Does the same basic system of dyed clear coat over chrome exist under a different name in the automotive (or other) paint world?
@williamsanders3 жыл бұрын
The closest sibling that is widely known is the "candy"-colouring, as found on cars from the 1950's, and Fender guitars of the 1960's. A metallic sparkle finish (either silver or gold), which was then oversprayed with a dyed transparant (often red) layer, and a clearcoat to seal it all in. Google "Candy Apple Red" for plenty of examples. Cromovelato is the exact same principle, but instead of using a (rather coarse) metallic flaked baselayer, it uses a mirror-like chrome finish. The margins for error on Chrome are way tighter: every little flaw will be glaringly visible and obvious.
@Aubreykun3 жыл бұрын
@@williamsanders Thank you! I know one-can candy colors exist but had no idea there was a more involved process it descended from.
