Great build. I procrastinated between S and M. Got the M. Perfect. I'm 168cm so between sizes. I'm on a 51 road logic, thinking to get a 53cm. Honestly the outback is one of the best feeling bikes I've ridden. Selling my trek checkpoint. Thanks. Look forward to more updates

Ha ha! I’m partial to the Road Logic because I’m a true roadie. I hope your experience with your first Ritchey is a good one with the Outback. I can’t endorse it yet since I haven’t put the bike through its paces yet. Again, I’m more of a true roadie. I can fully endorse the rim brake Road Logic with a high-end groupset, wheels and tires.

Actually, I keep experimenting. I know the philosophy is to rely on your core, but this business of keeping your wrists cocked in the drops is uncomfortable. I'm looking for a way to stay in the drops for long periods with the hands in a comfortable position yet still aero. Right now I have child regular handle bars flipped upside down. It looks about like what they were doing 100 years ago, but with a little wider backsweep. Take care. @SeeYouUpTheRoad

Thank You Patrick! The big meats feel like a pillow on pavement. We’ll see what type of traction I get out of them on loose stuff. The bolts are specific for this application and includes a cotter key point. They are inexpensive, at my cost anyway, and ordering them is easier through Shimano than any other fastener outlet. Not to mention I order from Shimano at least 3x a week.

I think long chain stays are a good idea, it was one of the reason for buying my outback as there less chance of the front derailleur and chain rubbing on the tyre. I had to buy shorter bots for both the front and rear calipers. I was using a SRAM group set.

The chainstay length on this bike is absolutely perfect. I don’t understand all these people wanting to get their chain stays shorter and their head tube angles slacker on all their bikes lol. Sweet “parts bin” build ! I totally agree you don’t need a special seat post, if the tires can’t absorb the shock you probably won’t be staying on the saddle anyways lol. Excited to see you take this out on the rough stuff, not that you weren’t already taking your roadlogic out on em😅 One last question what was the giant lightbulb you have in the sky ? Haven’t seen anything like that in weeks 🙃
@SeeYouUpTheRoad
@SeeYouUpTheRoad 11 ай бұрын
Let's start with with the giant lightbulb it's called the sun and we pay high sunshine tax for it here in San Diego lol! I think the long chain stays scare people when they haven't ridden the bike. I also think most people don't understand that stability is good on rough roads at high speeds. Most "gravel" people want a gravel bike to respond like a road bike but be stable on loose or rocky terrain. In those cases ride your Road Logic and don't buy a 142mm wide disc brake bike with longer chain stays than a rim brake bike. lol I may get Jessica an Ergon .. I have to make sure the princess has a comfy and fun ride :-)

Wonderful, this is my current dream bike. I do have a similar at home, also steel, but cheaper frame, so maybe a kg heavier and a bit less supple. Then I remember I sometimes mount a child seat on to the seat tube and perhaps it not being as supple is a good thing for me - for now. But someday...
@SeeYouUpTheRoad
@SeeYouUpTheRoad 11 ай бұрын
Hello Mark thank you for watching! You can get a lot of suppleness and ride compliance from your tires and pressure. Having your child come riding with you is worth a little less suppleness in my opinion! 🙂

As I mentioned in the video this bike was put together as parts bin special. I’m not a huge fan of all this gravel BS so I’m not going to buy another set of wheels for a bike I’m never going to ride. I built this bike for ONE specific purpose ONE specific ride. Of course there will be a few rides testing the gearing, tire choice etc but that’s it. So no need to spend any extra funds if I had stuff already on hand. And I’m a true roadie. I did most of the major gravel races 15 years ago before it caught on to the masses. The wheels are 700. I prefer 2X and I found out there is an opportunity to put an 11-40 cassette on this drivetrain. I am opinionated some will like it many won’t 😂 I don’t find I need to change a saddle to ride road or gravel. It’s all marketing! I always used to put the valve stems at 6 o’clock but I realized when shooting these bike profile videos that you can’t read the tire brand/model/size Thank you I try to keep it real. 😊

when I emailed them they put me on a large and I'm about the same height as you, I was pretty happy with it. I also tend to ride 55-56. I got 44mm tires and trying to squeeze fenders in them atm lol. The new bike set up here looks good btw, looks good against the rock and grass. I also had problem with the bolts with the brakes. I went 2x too, did you also find it weird how it routed on the underside of the downtube? Geez. Idk if I can even use that bottle cage bolts down there
@SeeYouUpTheRoad
@SeeYouUpTheRoad 11 ай бұрын
I was not concerned about the additional height (stack from 568 >> 587) I was more focused on the Reach which was super close 395mm down to 390mm When you say you are trying to squeeze in fenders ... have you been successful? I am curious if you can and what model you have chosen. I was looking at Rene Herse fenders IF I put any on. It doesn't rain much here but if I travel to other parts of the world I might put some on. Thank you for your feedback on the new filming location. Yep they ship bolts for carbon frames that have a huge chainstay ... not needed on steel bikes. YES! I didn't understand the routing of the FD cable. I am going to have to find a different BB guide or modify one to get the cable run much better. I wonder if they think everyone is running SRAM AXS so why bother with the cable routing. That 3rd bottle cage mount is rendered useless right now.

@SeeYouUpTheRoad 11 ай бұрын
Ha ha no one needs a 10K gravel bike. The very nature of the places where you are going to ride it should prohibit people from spending too much on a gravel bike. Carbon frames and carbon wheels have no place on gravel bikes or MTB bikes but if there's a market for it manufacturers will make it. I also don't think Ti should be out on the trails either. It's also too expensive to knock around out on the trail. For most purposes steel is still the best material to build bike frames from ... I will die on that hill.

@SeeYouUpTheRoad
@SeeYouUpTheRoad 11 ай бұрын
Hello Pete thanks for watching! Regarding sizing ... I prefer not to give sizing or fitting advice over the internet. But I will posit my sizing/fitting philosophy and experience. Most people buy bikes that are too small for them. Then they exacerbate the situation by riding short stems and high handlebar position. It's especially egregious when a rider has a long torso and short inseam and buys the smaller frame than they should because either 1. The shop guy doesn't know any better or 2. The rider has always bought the smaller bike because they don't like the top tube too close to their crotch or the more stupid reason 3. They heard pro racers use a bike 1 to 2 sizes smaller and ride 140mm stems and high seat post and they want to look like them (like buying deep section carbon wheels) I often find people that buy too small of a bike end up with their head up forward of the handlebar. The bike now has a disproportionate amount of the rider's weight over the front axle. This type of setup compromises bike handling. It is especially evident when descending. I can't tell you how many times I put someone on my fitting stand and just by their position on the bike I know they are a terrible descender I don't even have to ask them. No amount of money spent on a new disc brake bike is going to make them any better. I could go on but I will stop there. End Retro Grouch Rant lol!

Finished or not, this build looks great! I used to have a Rivendell 650B bike with what amounts to the predecessor to those Rene Herse tires in 42 mm. That 42 mm width was really fun. I bet your Outback is going to be a blast to ride. For my 50th Anniversary Road Logic, I went with a Ritchey WCS stem and 1-bolt post. But my favorite bars at the moment are Zipp Service Course SL 70 Ergo, which have a very slight backsweep on the tops, but no flare in the drops.
