The driver revivers are usually staffed by volunteers; usually open during holidays and long weekends. Hard working Aussies love to pack up their families on a Friday afternoon then drive great distances to "get away from it all"

Another lovely video. Great to see you guys pootling through countryside Ive known well over many years. The howling at Myall Lakes, yep definitely dingoes. Cheers.

Thank-you! Ah, good to know! We've been lucky enough to see dingoes once or twice in our travels, but didn't expect to see them there!

@@VeloObscura Oh good. Yeh they're a bit of a local phenomenon. The rangers have names for them and they can be seen hanging out in broad daylight. Special place. 🚲♥️

Still enjoying the playlist. I liked your visit to the tea gardens + ferry. I'm thinking Tassie sounds like a good place to start as riding in the hot sun appears to burn your skin a bit. Still I dunno, there so much beauty north east. I ordered and now almost finish buying my very own 520 , one of the last they built. The video editing is great and the tunes are a nice touch. Thank you. You've shown me a life I can really live.

Glad you're still enjoying it, mate! Tassie in Summer would be an amazing place to start a bike tour in Australia. I've talked to people about this before; and starting a tour down there and then riding North with a view to landing in QLD in winter is a fantastic way to do it to get the best of the weather. I did get a bit red for a bit! Staying on top of the sunscreen is a challenge! You have to reapply, reapply, reapply! Don't be like me! - Alternatively, get a sun hoodie like I did in the end or perhaps one of those big brims. Cheers

Dogs are always on my mind when I'm planning rides on quieter roads... Probably a bit more than they need to be - haven't had any particularly serious encounters. I guess only a matter of time though. Not sure I'd have the presence of mind to calmly grab my water bottle!
@VeloObscura2 жыл бұрын
You get used to it! Actually, when we were in Victoria we lived on a dairy farm for a short time and I couldn't go on even a 10km ride without getting chased by at least 2 farm dogs. That was my training! 😂
@simonrussell7342 жыл бұрын
@@VeloObscura Haha! Well I'm glad to have not had that training, not sure I'd end up doing much cycling... :)

There's an awful lot of advice out there on the Internet about what to do in hostile dog encounters and one thing that keeps coming up is the recommendation to get off the bike and "stand your ground" with the bike in between you and the dog. People also say to shout certain commands at then etc.... I'm not brave enough to stop, but so far the water bottle has worked every time. If you manage to get them right in the face, generally they leave or at least get confused for long enough for you to escape. 😂 In an ideal world people would just keep their dogs under control, but oh well... 🤷♂️

@@VeloObscura I don't know if I'll be trying that out any time soon 😂 the psychology of it probably makes sense, but yeah you'd be taking the gamble the dog is more scared than psycho. Probably my fear comes from growing up cycling around Canberra; don't know why but there seemed to always be dogs able to get out of their gardens... I guess being much bigger and faster now helps a little 😃

Nice work again, Dave and Bonnie! I'm really starting to get jealous about all the places you've ridden through on the NSW north coast! When I rode to Brissie (from Wollongong) in '67, it was all on the 'main drag', except for a quick squizz into Port Mac and ditto to Bellingen. Hey, Dave, do you call them chooks in England or have you already picked up a bit of the Aussie lingo? I'm really 'hanging' to see whether your ride across the Clarence River to Grafton and what you think of the double-storey bridge......
@VeloObscura2 жыл бұрын
Haha, they call them "chooks" down south in some places and I'd heard my aunt say it when I was young, so I was somewhat prepared! Unfortunately we've spent a bit of time not quite "on" the main drag, but close to it. I often wonder if we'd have been better off going inland. It sure would have been quieter, but when you're basically taking each day as it comes without a great prior knowledge of the area, a lot of the route is a bit of a gamble! No regrets though, it's been great!
@brianward77242 жыл бұрын
@@VeloObscura The inland route is much hillier and colder at night.

We're definitely planning on cycling around the world, but unfortunately Covid threw a wrench in the works and we had to put it back a bit. We're still planning on cycling around the world, but it'll be a little while because we need to save up some money. 💰

Oh, awesome! Yeah, we'll be heading over to Singapore and then cycling back to the UK. After that we'll head over to the USA. Australian wages are very good though, so we want to try and extend our stay for as long as we can get visas and save as much money as possible. Maybe we'll see you on the road and if not, then look us up if you decide to come to Australia. 👍

@@VeloObscura Australia is on my list. With New Zealand. First I’m going west starting from Poland. But in a zigzag line because I’m going also to Iceland and Alps. When I’ll get to Canary Islands I want to yacht-hitchhike to America. If it wont be possible than plane to Vancouver and south to Patagonia with few flights on the road as I don’t want to travel in a straight line. And from southernmost city in argentina > flight back to Panama and another try on catching a yacht-hitchhike but this time to New Zealand through all the oceania islands. If it won’t be possible then flight to NZ. And from there - Australia and whole Asia back to europe. So I will probably type a comment in 1,5/2 years if you’re still in Australia ;D

Haha, excellent! Sounds like an awesome trip! New Zealand is a must - I think we're going to try and go for a couple of months while it's the wet season in Far North Queensland. Are you going to KZbin or Instagram or anything like that? Would be great to follow your adventure! 👍
