I enjoy your videos very much. I live in bc and frequent Okanagan often. I’m planning on a bike trip through Vancouver island and watching your videos gives me inspiration. I’m 76 years old and so looking forward to this chapter in my life to unfold. Tks

This has become one of the very few channels where I watch every video and like straight away because I know the video will be perfect. My attention span has been shot to bits as a by product of these lockdowns but you, everytime, without fail keep me glued to the screen. It's a honor watching your content

Thanks - I put a great deal extra time/effort into editing each video to get things as best I can (and I’m learning something new all the time). Reading comments like this shows me it isn’t going unnoticed, and inspires me to continue learning the craft of storytelling. I hope to get better along the way. This old dog still has a few tricks left.

I’m glad to hear! These are the type of comments I love to hear. Encouraging people to get out and ride out side their comfort zone. To be confident enough in knowing that with a little inspiration, and a little planning, bigger trips are all just small, manageable rides. Roll with what happens and have funnnnn out there.

A bit of both. I was meeting my wife and friends, so there as that prize at the end. I had a much more elaborate route planned that went by the wayside due to time and fitness. While I may have been a little disappointed that I couldn’t show people all these other cool planned I know, I was still happy with my “girt” all things considers. And this was the first big trip I filmed, so I learned (later while editing) a great deal of what I would do differently for the next one. All part of learning a new craft. And I have lots of un-filmed areas to still show people.

Tks for the reply. My kona was stolen and now I’m looking for another. What are your thoughts on a gates belt drive combined with Aline 11 internal gear hub. I owned a city bike with that combination and had no issues. Yes I enjoy your videos very much.

I have an Alfine 11 that was on my fixie/commuter… the bike was sold but can’t part with the wheels I built. I think a Gates Belt would be a great low maintenance option for sure.

getting some inspiration for the upcoming spring and summer ... I wonder, once in Penticton(or any other remote town), how do you get back to Vancouver ? There is no public transportation AFAIK ... thanks and keep up the great work !

Good question? "Thanks for nothing Greyhound" --- Fast road ride back? Bribe a friend with food & gas to come get you? But more than not... Plan a loop. I know none of those are ideal answers, but that's the problem with BC's great geography, and lack of bus service. other option.... (pre-covied) -- I would hop the Amtrak go south, and ride some fun route between a few stations... then rail back home. Just do a little research to make you use use a terminal that has "baggage services" as those are the only stops that an Amtrak employee will load your bike onto the bike-storage car. You're not allowed to do it yourself. I love Amtrak. super cheap... rail to Oregon or northern California and ride.

rail n ride sounds awesome! I had looked into ViaRail which can take you to Jasper, long way back home then ... But ye, amtrack 100% , thinking on doing Vic->OlympicNP->then catch a train around Portland or something ;)

Thanks for filming this, dude. Definitely got the melancholic vibes of the last day across. Incidentally, how did you find your Wahoo for multiday trips? How much extra power bank capacity did you have to carry to keep it running every day?
@SaltyBeard_Adventures
@SaltyBeard_Adventures 3 жыл бұрын
Wahoo is pretty darn good.. I used to get 20hrs continuous nav when I got it. 3 years later of heavy use, i get about 16hrs of nav runtime. Charging? I have a ANKER 22,000mha battery that can charge my iPhone 11 and Wahoo up from almost dead 3 times. And usually enough left in my bank to charge a GoPro battery 1-2x

I bought it at MEC four years ago. At the time REI also carried them. Now, I can't even find them on google, so I don't know if they are printed anymore. They were made my United by Blue

hi, nice video, trip, beard :)... and excellent video quality..what video bitrate are you using for 4K ?

Hi Roman... would you believe 80,000!!! Yeah. Watch this great video (next comment) all about bit rates & codex vs final results once uploaded & encoded by KZbin - the results will surprise you. In changing a few things I’ve managed to actually improve my 1080 compression quality. Be mind full... these take a long time to upload.

Did you ride the cawston Oliver road?
@SaltyBeard_Adventures
@SaltyBeard_Adventures 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, last day of the trip was up and over the Oliver - Cawston road, and out through the ATV trails in Ripley/Madden lakes, dropping down at the horse stables on willowbrook rd. I had lots of other ares I wanted to ride but just didn’t have the legs: up to French mine, and also wanted to do Kobau ridge line.
